What have I bought?

I picked up a 'Rocgen Plus' at the boot fair today but I dont know what its actually for! (although I think its some kind of video mixer)

Its got two dials on the front. One for Amiga and one for Video. Both dials have a min/max

On the back it has the following: RGB Thru, Video out, Video in and Key In.

What would I do with it?

It's a genlock !

I've still got one of those as my father used it to make titles on the family videos.

You need a video source to feed into it, and a video recording source to feed out from it.

Load up DPaint or something and the background colour should be the video-source. Anything not background colour will be placed on top of the video image.

Yes - you will see the video image moving on your Amiga screen - but it's only fed-through, you cannot grab it or anything.

Adjusting those knobs will change the picture mixing or even maybe change the colour which is classed as the background - experiment.

These genlock's are the old method of making titles/subtitles on your videos - now days people use PC Editiing software and feed the video to the PC, edit it and then record it.

Great find! I need a genlock for work myself.

You know jim, some people still use the genlock+Amiga titling way... why? Because it's dead easy and FAST. Nothing comes close, you can churn out titles in no time.

This setup is specially popular among animé fansubbers

I might consider ebaying my Genlock (it's called MiniGen by the way) when I get round to sorting out my Amiga stuff - but I don't think it will work with your PAL will it ?

We use PAL B at work. Everyone does.
But dont worry, I need a local source, I wouldn't be able to afford teh exchange rate. I already have located a guy who has a studio and had a genlock gathering dust in a dark corner for years. It's one of the big ones, perfect for live work

Thanks anyway Jim!

40 pence. That's about 2 pesos. Plus about £4 postage (20 pesos) to Argentina.

That's a nice idea Big-Byte, sell it to Akira !

If I cant get one, and if Big Byte is willing to sell it at a good price, I'll consider it
