For windows you could use WinVICE or CCS64. I don't really know if they support zipped images, but I think so. It's been some years since I used them for the last time.
Anyway you should give them a try |

PC:
Get the GBC v5 collection, an all-in-one package for Gamebase with 20000 entries. Search for torrents or something. |

And you should get DC, keyboard and then use Frodo for DC.
Gamebase is 4.5 GB. |

I'm sure that WinVice can open zips, but I dislike what it does to the screen while it's doing it. I hope they have fixed that.

WinVICE (free) and CCS64 (shareware) are both capable to use compress files.
If you have time, download the GBC 64 this worthwile the time. Is, at least in my opinion the best gamebase for a old computer make. |

GB64, just like GB Amiga, includes the best available game versions. Together with the needed scripts to autoboot the games. All games are zipped and running fine with CCS64 or WinVice.

I normally use VICE, but you could use CCS64 or Frodo (don't know about ZIP support under Frodo though). There are others as well that are not as good of course.

In case anyone is interested, a new version of VICE was released today. You can find out more as well as download it for whatever platform you use (including the Amiga!) from the VICE homepage.

CCS64 is far better in compatibility. Anyway, Mircro64 is on the way. This could/should be the most accurate C64 emulator ever. We will see.

Claims to be the most accurate C64 emulator around, I still use VICE for the most part. |

Hoxs64 is generally accepted as the most accurate, VICE as the most flexible, CCS64 as the most user friendly and micro64 could be described as the most anticipated. There's also Hyper64 which is an interesting intellectual exercise in making a really fast 64 emulator with little concern for accuracy.
As long as we're talking 64 emulators I have to plug Power64 which is very popular on the Mac. It isn't as accurate or feature-rich as VICE but it is very easy to use and has some really nifty features like the ability to cut and paste to/from the 64's BASIC editor. |

VICE is excellent, supports many cbm platforms - I first got it to watch Robotic Liberation, a VIC-20 demo
CCS64 has been a solid companion since, oh before I was born (c) Obi-Wan Frodo is a new experience for me, on my GP2x, seems to be fine, just like VICE on GP2x. And for games I usually go to pl*netemu.net and choose at random :P I usually choose the cracked and trained ones, cos some C-64 games are just b*stards to play nowadays, at least without a real computer, since ICBA to hook up my C128... All 3 take zipped disk images afaik. |
