Abuse Open-Source Conversion Mentioned as 1995 should be 1998

Hi all,

it has come to my attention that HOL is displaying the game Abuse with the year first of release on the Amiga as 1995.

http://hol.abime.net/3181

This is incorrect since that is when the game was developed by Crack Dot Com. The game was released on the PC in 1996 by Origin Systems & Electronic Arts (EA Takeover).

The year of first release on the Amiga points to around 1998. Since this is when the first review took place regarding an Amiga conversion of this game. Also all traces of this open-source port link it to to the year of 1998 based on Aminet files.

Port to AmigaOS by:
Hans-Joerg Frieden, Thomas Frieden

The source code for the game was made Public Domain by its developer "Crack dot Com" in July 1997.

In 1997 the source-code was accompanied with the shareware games files. Eventually the Abuse registered game files were available off the Crack dot Com website.

Crack dot Com closed its doors in October 1998.

Unless HOL goes by the initial release of the game in general. Although that has not been the case with previous commercial Amiga ports from other Platforms.

Also worth mentioning that LemonAmiga states this game with a release year of 1998.

Debates regarding this are intended

Also, worth mentioning that Doom and some other Open-Source ports do not have a release year. First mention I had seen of an Amiga port of Doom was when the source-code was released by ID Software in 1997.

A magazine mention I do recall was in the June 1998 issue of Amiga Format with the review of Quake. The Cover CD came with the latest ports of Descent and Doom. There may have been some mentions earlier than this. The first proper Amiga ports of the source can be linked to sometime late 1997 early->mid 1998.
