Presuming you can get to the final lap, just take it pretty slowly (90-100mph) and make sure you hit the time capsules on the inside of every corner by driving on the edge of the track approaching the corner and not accelerating until you hit the capsule. I rarely go over 120mph at any point on this lap.

If you are still struggling, make sure you remember the location of the time capsules on the last but two lap. They are M,R,L,R,L,R,L,M,L,R.

Thanks for that - yeah, it is the final lap I'm struggling with. The first capsule lap I can deal with fairly easily now. After the first couple on the second one it's always been curtains for me.

Lotus 2 also caused some misunderstanding when it was played at Lemon in 2007 (http://www.lemonamiga.com/forum/view...r=asc&start=45):

never had that experience - other than on Storm; and not for a long while....

btw, Forest, Night and Fog are the least important stages for points as they offer the least bonus points for the smallest bonus times. On Forest you get 50,000 per bonus second but by the time you're on Swamp it's 400,000. My max time on Forest is 19 - worth .95M; on Fog 21=3.15M; and on Motorway 34 = 11.9M; and Swamp 34 = 13.6M). Desert, Motorway and Swamp are the most important for bonus times. Storm is an exception as it's so difficult to complete at all, let alone comfortably.

Sorry, but without absolute proof I just don't believe your score.

Go to MARP and watch some of the replays of Outrun. Novice is an incredible player. Yet his massive score was only achieved after hundreds of attempts... To me, 74M on Lotus 2 is almost a similar achievement! Which is why I think the version being played by most here differs from the original. (To say nothing of the varying performance of the game under emulation. Hence the hopelessness of a contest like this having absolute integrity.) Perhaps the Lotus Trilogy version even differs from the original. (I own both.) Anyway, enough blowing gas... there's only one way to prove it, I suppose.

I'm long past this. My 64m score was full of mistakes, I can easily see 74m being achievable now.

I think a lot of those problems were down to the fact some people were using the floppy and others used the WHDLoad versions. That is why we opted for one version to prevent those problems happening again.

The old Lemon Compo had it's fair share of controversy.

Rules

Post screenshots of your scores in this thread, and write your score underneath. You can enter as many times as you like within the round's time frame.

IMPORTANT - You MUST play the WHDLoad version linked to in this thread, and the one in the Zone - as the scoring systems seem to vary amongst different versions, we have supplied the WHDLoad version on a High Density ADF to play in UAE for those who don't use WHDLoad normally, so you can boot it and play it like normal. You need an A1200 setup emulated with a High Density floppy drive and 4MB of Fast RAM.

No cheating of any kind (including score leeching) - this includes save states. No continues/passwords allowed. If you suspect a contestant of cheating then don't post it in public (anyone who does so will have their posts edited or deleted) - please PM me, Biscuit or mihcael and we will investigate it. If we find anyone guilty of cheating then they will be banned for the entire season.

Please only post your score on either the EAB or Lemon forums. If you have already played this year you have to post your score on the same forum for the whole season. If you are new, the one you post on first will be your team for the whole season. However you are welcome to discuss the compo, game etc. on the other forum if you wish.

Remember, anyone can join in at any time. Have fun and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Downloads

- High Density ADF (see above, this or the below WHDLoad archive MUST be used. Thanks to Hungry Horace for supplying this)

I know I'm resurrecting a really old thread but I'd really appreciate it if anyone still as a copy of the above 'hi-density' ADF for Lotus 2 that apparently allows hi-scores to be saved?

If you have a copy could you Zone it for me please?

I'm having this problem with a number of games under WinUAE where it doesnt save the hi-score table to disk. Have tried X-COPY-ing to a WinUAE Custom Disk which works for a few games (EG Fire & Ice) but some games just don't seem to want to save hi-scores (& yes have checked that DF0 isn't write-protected). Any general advice on this would also be appreciated.

PS - I know I can but don't want to use the WinUAE Save State function or Action Replayor in some cases WHDLoad - I want to try to keep as per the original Amiga DF0 hi-score save experience.

Thanks

The file is actually still there - however it's on and all links to it have been 'censored' on EAB since then. If you copy and paste the link for the HD floppy above and insert between the two dots you should find it's still there. But I've put it in the Zone anyway now. (EDIT: No I haven't, capehorn has already done it.)

Let me know when you have it sorted - if you get it and it works okay, I'll remove these posts from the thread as I'm not really keen on having years-old competition threads resurrected

I put it in the zone last night, and then forgot to post in the thread as I playtested it to make sure it was the right version (I have a few different versions of Lotus II on my machine and wasn't sure it was the right one - but the file size and file modified date matching the dates in this thread strongly suggest that it is)

Thanks for your help chaps. I've downloaded the ZONEd version & it runs fine on my WinUAE A1200 setup with Fast RAM @ 4MB & DF0 set to HD. The problem is - it still doesnt save the hi-score table ??

Play a game & post a score that shows as about 8th on the hi-score table then quit out using the Page Down (Amiga Help) key - but when I reload the ADF its back to the old std hi-score table.

Any further help & advice would be appreciated. When you ran the ADF did you test that it was actually saving the hi-scores?

Thanks again

(I've only just noticed my post above makes no sense - I probably should have realised that if I typed m ediafire it would have been edited out automatically...)

I've just looked on the WHDLoad website and it seems that if you can set a tooltype to custom2=1 then that should save highscores automatically. There was an update to the slave in 2016 so I'm not sure if this is only applicable to the new version or not, but it's probably still worth trying out I think.
