I would never bash you for such a comment. (: To be honest, I only played this once and it was through a recommendation from a dude in the UK via xbox live. I dont' remember if i played it in MAME or what though.

Sorry, TCD, I understand you like this game because of nostalgia - but it's the worst 16bit-console-shoot'em up I ever played. Sure there are worse shoot'em ups on Amiga and 8bit-systems (due to technical limitations), but I've never played a worse shoot'em up than this on the Mega Drive, Super NES or PC Engine.

At least it works fullspeed on notaz' ingenious PicoDrive-port for PSP...

Well, here's a first score. Not too bad of a shooter, certainly not super-hard as a certain RAIDEN, but more comfy.

I don't like how incredibly dark the graphics are tho... it's a bit tricky to play in full daylight like I think most of us are currently enjoying. ( here in northern Sweden, it's full on daylight right now, at 20 to 7 in the evening... 18.40 And during the summer it will be continously sunny almost every hour of the 24-hour period..)

Hey druid, what do those read and blue dots mean? Are they the amount of specials that I have acquired? Like that shield that kind of activates rather randomly when I press some button once I get to a boss.

Also, new high-score, much higher:

Indeed
I'm a bit astonished that john rates this the 'worst 16 bit console shump', but well guess this day had to come

That's because I hold 16bit-console-shmups in high regard.

So far I've played:

Mega Drive:
Thunderforce III
Thunderforce IV
Musha Aleste

Super NES:
Axelay
Super Aleste
Super R-Type
R-Type III

PC Engine:
Gradius
Parodius
R-Type
Raiden

Neo Geo:
Blazing Star
Pulstar

I prefer each of them over Gynoug (even the not-so-great Axelay).
While it's not a bad game it's still the "worst 16-bit console shmup I ever played"...

And while I've played worse Amiga shmups than Gynoug (Insects in Space, Katakis, Agony) I also think Battle Squadron, Apidya, Banshee, Hybris, SWIV, Silkworm, R-Type I&II and Uridium II are superior.

Hmm... this time, I've only managed a moderately better score. I need to beat this boss... For some reason I couldn't activate my shield, before I got blasted. :|
