Recently discovered classic gems

Do you know an Amiga game which you have recently discovered which is so good you wish you had played it all those years ago on your original Amiga?

Well, I remember a review of a game called Paramax (see attached pic) by Kingsoft. Way back in 1992 in Amiga Joker it received a good score. Pity I was not able to find it on copy-parties or in softwareshops. Now, ten years after its release I finally play it in an Amiga emulator and I am gobsmacked. For me, Paramax is the newly discovered gem in Amiga Emulation Country. One would say it is a simple horizontal scrolling budget platform game but for me it is more. It is the Amiga at its best with parallax scrolling, copper-coloured backgrounds, soothing music and a cuddly platform hero. I am playing this game for some days now and it ranks as the discovery of the year.
When I would have played it back in my original Amiga days it would have made it to my all-time games Top Ten.

Seems like you got it working right. Last time I tried it on emulators it had servere graphics errors with WinUAE and completely refused to load on winfellow.

My copy of Paramax too has some minor graphic glitches but they are only apparent in level One (the Techno city). Here the parallax scrolling layers are sometimes absent but they don't ruin the gameplay. From level Two (the Caves) the scrolling works right. B.t.w. I have played this game only in WinUAE with an emulated 68040 CPU and lots of memory.

Id have to say that the best thing about emulation (WinUAE) for me is playing ALL the games I never got a chance to get back in the early nineties.
Id always wondered what Chaos Engine 2 was like having been a huge fan of the original. Wish I hadnt bothered finiding out now.

I recently discovered "Scorched Tanks" and can't stop playing it. I never would have given it a try (being a public domain game) had it not been from the recommendation of this board. It's better than 60 percent of most commercial games from then or now!

There are so many titles out there to be newly experienced (and re-discovered) that it's impossible to find time for them all. The EAB Board has been a tremendous help in pointing me towards the best ones.

It still amazes me that out of the six or so titles I look at per night there is always some hidden gem I have either forgotten or have never seen...:smileek

Because I used to love (and still do love) Beat em Ups so much, a constant source of pain for me back in the Amiga 500 days was that I could never find a copy of Shadow Fighter. Now I've finally got it and I love it.

Similarly, I have always loved RPGs so much, and yet I never had access to any Amiga RPGs. Now I can finally get medieval Amiga 500 style with titles like Eye of the Beholder, Black Crypt and Ishar.

I discovered the otehr day a Taito arcade conversion, Volfield. It's just Qix with knobs on, but I love it!

Tim, this game looks terrific! is it on emuchina?

With amiga emulation, I found my 1st WORKING copy of Ruff 'n' Tumble (it seems like all copies here in Brazil crashed somewhere in world 2

)

And I found out many classics I had never played before, like Wizball or, like Dastardly, the horrible Chaos Engine 2

I also did my 1st go on AGA games, and found cool games like Roadkill and Virocop.

But general emulation made me found LOTS of great games for other systems, like the EXCELLENT Soldier Blade for PC-Engine, or Chrono Trigger for SNES.

didn't you know Volfied? Indeed a great game , I love it. I believe it was also released for Mega-Drive, with the name "Ultimate Qix"

Is it an AGA game or ECS?

BTW, my copy of Ruff n Tumble NEVER accepted passwords. I think I need to go find other cracks.

It's an OCS game and works fine on my A600 thanks to TUDE.
When I finish Amberstar (Miggy version is so good..) I'll play it until death

The WHDLoad disk image works without problems but it's not cracked

Maybe you get this information a bit late, but I have downloaded Paramax from BTTR. As with all Kingsoft titles at BTTR, this game features a password-protection.
It is remarkable how little attention Kingsoft-games got in the original Amiga days: reviews of Kingsoftgames by professional games-magazines were few and far between and the games were also extremely difficult to get.
