Hey JOTD. In case you're ever updating this I think I found a slight map inconsistency. Somehow I'm unable to unlock this platform.

I even followed the exact order of [ Show youtube player ], but still no luck.

hi

It works but you need to activate the lever within 2 minutes after having displayed the chest (no shortcut allowed)

You can also open the door, almost reach the "level complete" and go back: the platform will be there

cheers

Hey, thanks a lot man. I hope you don't mind, but I've uploaded Gods Deluxe to the Linux Game Tone, with proper credit given (currently awaiting review), where it will hopefully get a little more exposure. I think you should create an indiedb page as well. This remake deserves to be known.

Also, forgive me the question, but are you still planning to update this?

no prob about uploading the game. I've been advertising the remake for 5 years, and I'm a bit tired about that. Some people expect big enhancements like 3D or new concepts or new graphics, but I'm unable to deliver that.
Some people expect a 100% identical game with small enhancements. That's more realistic for me. It depends on how people think games should be remade.

About the updates, well, I'd love to, but I lack time ATM. 3 young kids, a lotta work, some physical training the days I'm working which stretch working days, so I often work at home in the evenings... Not a lot of time for personal projects.

Updates needed:
- take Kroah excellent editor and match the values (health of monsters) & positions of the objects for an even better experience
- fix some annoying bugs, like freezes or repeating sounds (I should rewrite completely the audio engine since it's crap)

as you see it'll be minimal updates. No fancy things. I'll also fix some whdload slaves of mine which are defective.

And I'd also like to finish Magic Pockets and Cadaver remakes (Cadaver remake would be great with Kroah findings & level viewer), but that's really too much work for the time I have, let's be realistic.

Here's the Linux Game Tome profile page. Feel free to leave a comment on it. Perhap's I'll create an indiedb page as well. With some luck I could try to get you an interview at freegamer as well.

As for the updates, I totally understand your stance. The fact that you already pulled this off with such an amazing detail, it's a feat by itself.

I agree, and i still have to take into account your mails about some inconsistencies you noticed in the editor.

Jotd,

I've just installed Java SE 7 from Oracle on my Mac, and now Gods Deluxe will not play properly. It only plays the introduction over and over again, and stutters slightly if I press F1. It doesn't respond to any other key-presses.

Other than that it still seems to be dependent on the SE 6 being enabled, or it will just say it can't find any Java runtime to invoke.

Do you know if there's a way to make the game run without removing SE 7?

Well you can install both Java 6 and Java 7, but then you'll have to modify the Gods batch script to use specifically the 'java' command from the Java 6 installation to run it.

Be aware though: on Windows the 'default' Java is the last one you install as far as I know.

@JOTD: it might be better to just bundle the runtime with the game to prevent this kind of stuff - which you can legally do, but the download becomes bigger. Not a problem for the users but perhaps you have bandwidth limitations

Thanks. Something probably went wrong during installation, I removed SE 7 and installed both the RT and JDK again, and it plays perfectly fine on the new SE 7 now.

How can I open this door? It's on level 2 of the "4 A.M. Mix" level set. I've pushed all hidden switches and tried every combination of the levers. Is it possible to get stuck like this if you make a mistake earlier in the game?

Sincerely, the Thread Necromancer

From what I see you're missing at least the urn

cheers

Hi again,

Currently updating the remake again after all those years, and with insight from Kroah awesome Gods viewer.
I'm ironing out some bugs (specially the "freeze after level 2 bug" which is a memory/cache issue that can be workarounded by turning off the level cache option) and finetuning my custom levels. Since it did not play them for a long time, I'll realize they're too hard and tone the difficulty down
I hope people are still interested.

I didn't know this project existed until now. Lol. I'm sure many would be interested in your update.

Is this the current up to date download
0.8-B (beta, complete & fixed jotd levels)?

v0.8B is the latest version. But v0.8C is on the way, with a lot of fixes.

Would be interesting to see if you can get Gods to work on AvianVM:

https://github.com/ReadyTalk/avian

Then you can just bundle a tiny VM with the game and people wouldn't even need to have Java installed.

Hmmm I don't think I'll convert it to C. I should have coded it in C in the first place but now I'm reluctant to redo everything. Not enough time.
Have you checked my Magic Pockets remake. Not complete at all but runs on a nintendo DS. That's what should have been done with Gods.

I think you misunderstood him, he waits for version 0.8c which you announced earlier in this thread.
