Faster floppy file dialog for large directories?
I noticed that when I use the file dialog from WinUAE to select a floppy image from a large folder, it takes Windows XP forever display it. For example, my adf folder contains ~28,000 zip files and it takes over a minute for the dialog to appear after clicking on the ".." button. Windows Explorer only takes ~3 seconds to display the list of files. I am not familiar with Windows file dialog options, but there might be some option that can be set to speed it up?

Using Dopus is the solution.

I fail to see how DOpus will help the OP with their issue, which only exists in the standard Windows file requester (and which DOpus does not replace even when installed).
rsn8887: Only recommendation I have for now is to split your floppy images into folders for each letter (or groups of letters) so that you have fewer images to display in the file requester. |

Yes. It seems like I didn't read the problem properly.

There are no options. It is just a simple file dialog (GetOpenFileName()) that supports some flags that mainly adjusts the look.
Most likely reason is the usual: stupid shell extension installed that reads or even worse, unpacks, each file while Windows is reading the directory. |

Wouldn't an installed shell extension also slow down the explorer?

Does other programs' file dialogs have same behavior? Use sysinternals process monitor to check any suspicious file accesses while directory list is populated? |

Its been a while since I used winuae for anything "serious" (Im more an amithlon guy for emulators), but have you tried uaecontrol? If memory serves me correctly it allows a person to select an adf image to "insert" to df0:, df1:, df2:, and df3: from the amiga os side.
