A3640 Performance Anomaly
I have just picked up an A3640 board and noticed something odd in the SysSpeed benchmarks. The 040 chip has been upgraded from a 25mhz one to a 33mhz one. With a 50mhz crystal, it is returning roughly 66% of the 'MIPS' of a standard 040/25, and with a 66mhz crystal it is returning exactly what a standard 040/25 card should.
Why is this? I assumed that with a 50mhz crystal it would perform the same, and with 66mhz it would be faster. |

@edd jedi
That is interesting, possibly a delay line fix gone bad? Take some pictures of the top of the card and I am sure we can advise better. An 040 running at 25MHz should give you about 18.1 MIPS An 040 running at 33MHz should give you about 23.5 MIPS An 040 running at 50MHz should give you about 37.5 MIPS These are common results of SysInfo |

Ah, that's worrying, that's what I thought too. Here are some photos from the ad I bought it from (please note not mine):

Does the performance vary depending on which 040 library you have installed? And whether or not you have OxyPatcher etc?
What about memory speed? |

I'll have to let you know, I haven't actually installed it yet as I've just moved house, I just noticed the oddity in the sales thread I bought it from after receiving it.

Those results could be from no 68040.library too.
