Amiga 600 3D printed case
Hi, I would like to introduce my project ... more than 2 years with breaks comming to light... more tan 10Kg of materials in trash. I have done 98%... i working on more projects GVP 530, A1200, A500, C64...

Cool. That's some skills you have there!
I have a 3D printer myself but lack the modelling skills you and others have. I definitely need lots more practice with the 3D software!!

Am the usual devil's advocate, but wonder if the design is splittable in pieces that can be printed from less advanced 3d printers and then assembled together via clips; final result might be less solid but will provide a case

How about printing with ABS and using Acetone to smooth the finish?

ABS can be and often is a right pain in the ass to print large parts with. It tends to warp, a lot!!
For large parts like this PETG would be a better choice than ABS for ease of use. That's not to say it won't warp also, but lot less of a chance. Its not as sensitive to warping due to small temperature changes and minute draughts as ABS is. |

I print allot of huge parts in both nylon and abs\asa but in a closed cabinet "homemade" with a 200watt heater and no part cooling fan. Its very rare that i get any warping with my setup.

True. A lot depends on the quality of your 3D printer and the extruder it uses!
I never went full in with the hobby and just got a basic Anet A8 Prusa clone. It's brilliant for what it is and what it cost with PLA, not so good with ABS. You can improve ABS printing just by sticking a cardboard box over it while printing, less chance of warping then. It's a terrible setup for ABS if you don't though, even small ABS prints can warp in every direction! The problem with using printers in "cabinets" is the space used, it makes some of the things huge! It's definitely one of those hobby's where you get what you pay for. If you're aiming to be serious with it, go for a more expensive machine. I may do if I ever get around to practising and improving my 3D modelling skills. |
