Treasure Island was the only one that I actually owned.

Fond memories, amazing music, but by all accounts it's by far the hardest Dizzy game. I could get underwater with the snorkel but always accidentally dropped it and died!

Apparently you were supposed to have more than one life but they accidentally left it at one

I was looking for some screenshots of Treasure Island Dizzy where it's called Desert Island Dizzy. Just found them in a preview from Sinclair User. I thought I was going mad...

I felt the early Dizzy titles were better games and better suited to the Spectrum than the Amiga, but from Magicland onwards (possibly to do with a change of developer and a shift in emphasis from 8 to 16-bit) they definitely fared better on the Amiga (the Speccy version of Crystal Kingdom was particularly half-arsed, and it wasn't a great game to start with).

Treasure Island was largely ruined by the one life rule, in my view. Fantasy World felt like the first time the series had really 'matured', and Magicland was the peak - it had the right balance in difficulty, size, puzzles and all the rest of it. Prince Of The Yolkfolk was similar except it was too small and too easy (although it's still pleasant to play through). Fantastic Dizzy is really good, though - the minecart sub-game is worth it alone and it's properly big and attractive-looking (especially the AGA version with the parallax scrolling), but it lacks the charm, focus and character interaction of earlier titles.

Spellbound was a mess, and Crystal Kingdom had some funny dialogue but was extremely torturous to play through - certainly anything past level one.

Big love for Treasure Island Dizzy and voted for it.

That was my first jump onto the Dizzy series with the Spectrum. Hard as hell but as a kid always felt a massive sense of achievement when I got the snorkel and could get into the water.

I remember the inventory management was difficult - you could accidently drop the snorkel whilst in the water killing yourself!

Dizzy were great value games for the Spectrum - was it £1.99 or £2.99 for the first 4 releases?
