Mouse and Joystick show "No Host Device"
Hiya, I'm having an issue where both the mouse and joystick both show "No Host Device" in the launcher.
In game I can F12 to select the mouse manually but the joystick doesn't show up at all. fs-uae-device-helper.exe --list doesn't show anything at all. Worked before, but this was a while ago as I've not used FS-UAE for a while and I'm currently on 2.9.7dev3 Any ideas? |

Whoops. just recognized I suddenly got the same or a very similar problem. Windows 10 64 here, also latest dev. This should be a new bug, I can't remember having this issue before.
On my system, mouse and joystick both show "no host" very often when I try to start the launcher or a game through launchbox. This seems to be failing SOMETIMES only. If I start the launcher after new windows launch or wait ten minutes after ending a game, it may find my xinput controller and mouse again. But if I start immediately after closing game/launcher, it will almost certainly fail to find my controllers. Windows Update conflict, perhaps? |

Also, using a fresh new portable of the dev FS UAE doesn't help this time.
If logs are needed, I'll try and provide soon. |

Just a quickie, but a goodie!
I've no idea what it did but the new April 2018 Windows 10 update fixed this! Mouse and joypad now fully working again. |

Maybe same as Herbert West mentioned, that it sometimes works after reboot.
Anyway, I've still no idea why this happens, and only for some users. I cannot reproduce the issue at all on my computers (never seen the problem). |

Sadly, I've no idea why... It's ASUS Sonic Studio, the sound app for ASUS motherboards. When I updated to the April 2018 update it also updated the Realtek Audio drivers, which were incompatible with Sonic Studio, so it didn't load. I put these back to the proper ASUS released versions, Sonic Studio loaded again and no inputs on FS-UAE. Close down Sonic Studio and, BINGO, inputs work again! Hopefully this helps! EDIT: I've just checked and, even though Sonic Studio is loaded, everything in it is set to "OFF". |

This can help tremendously, figuring out what / something that triggers the problem is often the greatest obstacle to solving issues like this. Does opening / closing Sonic Studio reliably cause the Launcher to fail/succeed in detecting devices? I.e. does it happen every time you either have Sonic Studio running / not running?

I can't for the life of me think what Sonic Studio is doing that effects Input detention though

I managed to reproduce the problem in a virtual machine (no Sonic Studio installed; no reason to think it does something wrong, but it clearly triggers the problem).
Anyway; I got a similar problem in a vritual machine, fs-uae-device-helper --list worked on time, then no longer. Debugging further, I found that it seems the problem is that the output is buffered and never actually output (I expected the output to - at latest - be flushed at program exit when the program exits normally...). Explicitly flushing stdout after printing to stdout / before exiting seems to fix the problem! I will create a test binary later (possibly not until tomorrow, my build box is busy) Last edited by FrodeSolheim; 05 May 2018 at 23:49. |
