Amiga 2000 CIA chips
My light gray screen boot problem continues.
I have read more than a few times this could be a CIA chip problem. Does the 2000 take the same ones as the 500? There is mention of odd and even but they are marked both the same on the 2000. If the 2000 doesn't take the A500 version where do I acquire them? |

They're the same across those machines, and also the same as each other. Odd and even refers to their function in the Amiga (specifically their addresses), but the chips themselves are identical.

Much obliged Daedalus.
(Dublin then Glasgow eh? Sounds like my distant relatives path before getting on that long boat ride) |

Why don't you try the DiagROM? It hasn't helped me to identify the cause of my grey screen, but it may help you.

Assuming I acquire a Diagrom what next?
I read it outputs to the serial port, how do I read that? Is the diagnostic information something a novice can understand or is for technical people? |

The output does appear on the screen too assuming the ROM is able to write to it. As for the inforrmation which is displayed, I cannot comment as nothing appeared when I tried it.
It is merely a suggesttion and if it does work, the diagnostic information may lead you in the correct direction. |

Yeah, it's more for technical people really, but can give a good indication of a fault if the machine is running well enough to get the menus. It includes CIA testing routines, though if you've swapped them with a working 500 then you'll rule them out as being the issue.
