Still causes an instant BSOD here.

I'm sticking with 822R1 (the last one that works on my system), which works quite nicely, thank you.

BTW, my system is an Athlon 2400, geForce2 MX400, 512Meg, etc.

klesterjr: without more information this probably won't be ever fixed..

Much more important than system specs is Windows version, contents of winuaebootlog.txt and more information from BSOD. My guess is buggy device driver, maybe some input driver if it crashes even before GUI appears.

I'm getting some good speeds with this version, for some reason it just seems to run much faster on my system!

Yay!

Thumbs up

Nice one Toni. The bdsocket fix seems to have worked well and the CPU % indicator should be very useful.

This is amazing! I haven't been able to use newer versions of WinUAE because they've been running sooo slow on my computer. This version ran very well in a window (full screen was a bit slow). Yay!! Thanks a lot!

Toni Wilen:

Sorry for such an ambiguous post-- I don't usually post at all. I just install each new release hoping that my problems will be fixed. Anyway, to be more specific . . .

My current desktop system is an Athlon with a geForce 2 video card (reiterating what I said earlier).

It doesn't crash at the "WinUAE Properties" screen, but rather when the emulator is launched. The crash is so hard that I have to shut off the computer with the "power button" (can't ctrl-alt-del out of this one).

I currently run Windows98SE (but I had XP on it for a while and it did the same thing (or something similar).

As I said, I've been "very" happy with 822R1. After that, the mouse behaved differently. It seems to function independently of the windows mouse pointer so when the underlying windows pointer hits the edge of the screen, the side toolbar appears (somewhat scrambled) -- does that make sense?

In addition, using "alt-tab" (which I do constantly) has the effect of selecting all the visible icons in rapid succession -- although this is a cool effect, I don't much care for it.

The newer releases have all worked fine on my notebook, though (which has WindowsME installed). Except, of course, for the two bits of "odd behavior" I noted above.

Anyway, thanks for the added enthusiasm you've brought to WinUAE (Brian King seemed to have lost interest long before passing the torch). I use my UAE Amiga a LOT and have purchased $100's of dollars worth of commercial & shareware software for it in the last couple of years. My 3000 only gets turned on now when I need to convert a disk into an adf.

A quick follow up--

I reinstalled 823 so that I could write down the BSOD message and could NOT get it to crash! I must have loaded it 20 times! Last night, it crashed every time I tried it (as it has done on this machine since 822R2).

It still does the icon thing I described in my previous post (I don't have a side toolbar anymore, so I don't know about that), but I'll leave 823 on and see how it works over the next few days.

.. because you have to install DirectX first?

But doesn't Win2k come with some form of DirectX anyways???

*wonders whether §ane is still up for making 95-compatible EXEs this time *

AFAIK, no Windows has ever come with DirectX pre-loaded. You've always had to get that yourself.

And dinput8 would suggest Direct X 8, which came out after Win2k anyway.

Oh, and thanks for your continued work Toni. It's always appreciated

I used the new version all day yesterday, as I couldn't stop . Just want to say that I think this is the best WinUAE version EVER. Seriously, why would I ever use 0.8.8 or 0.8.14 again? I could almost get the same speed, but with so much more compatibility! I think I love you, Toni!

DirectX was loaded when I installed quake 3 arena, age of kings, etc.

Anyway I installed the latest 9.0b and it works now, that file must have been missing from the earlier directx I had loaded.
