X-surf with AmiTCP Issues

Hi All,

Just got an X-surf and installed it in my 4000.

Installed the X-surf driver (1.2) and Sana II.

I followed this to install AmiTCP:

http://www.wiwi.uni-frankfurt.de/~an...itcp/index.htm

When she boots she lasts for about 1 minute then freezes. If I try to use any network command it freezes quicker.

If I remove the netstart command from the user-startup everything is fine and dandy but of source no TCP/IP.

I've checked all the edited files and are as per the above link.

Anybody got any ideas.

I'm using AmiTCP 3.0b2

Cheers.

Run the xsurftest command from the X-Surf driver CD to test the hardware.

It is very likely an issue with AmiTCP

AmiTcp is always a problem to configure, the correct information seems to not go in the right places. Try MiamiDX. You can find a key file and good instructions on its use. The X-surf is a good card and easy to get up and running; if you want to stick with AmiTCP, find one of the install guides with screen shots and do a re-install

You should use Miami instead. MiamiDx is overkill for a simple internet connection.

OK. Ive just removed all AMITCP stuff and installed MiamiDX.

Again it crashed when I try to set up Miaminit.

I select other SANAII driver. Point it to my x-surf.device and it freezes on 'Contacting Rarp server' window.

If I just run MiamiDX I can set up my interface and it seems to poll the card for its mac address so I can only assume the card works.

I'll start from scratch and try again.

Has anyone got the xsurftest program? I cant find it anywhere.
Thanks.

Removed all MiamiDX and just tried Easynet from Amigakit.

All set up but when I select 'go online' amiga crashes again.

I'll remove and try Miami later on today.

I'd say there is a hardware defect or your X-Surf is not plugged in properly.

Here is the xsurftest program:

File Type: lha xsurftest.lha (10.1 KB, 155 views)

EasyNet is very good

EasyNet itself works well, but it uses AmiTCP 3.02b and the correct information goes it the wrong places: it says your "[network].device" is in Devs not Devs:Networks and another simple mistake. Your issue is that it should not crash the system, just not connect. Check the ENVARC to see if all network references are gone before a fresh install and that the devices are the most recent (check their version numbers vs a "google" for the most recent). If you know someone who is nice they can copy all the relevant files from their setup and from their correct locations for you, Lharc them, and email them to you. Folks all these files are in the Public Domain so there is no Piracy in this post

This why I hate helping out other users in Forums; someone is always calling you a Pirate of copyright material; best to keep quiet and be a reader, not helper

Thanks thomas for the xsurftest.
I ran it and it finds the card, test 16bit mem ok, finds the realtec nic and its mac. ID's the pnp chip and irq (3).
Starts the loopback test and then freezes. With my switch connected and without.
I'll try in in my 2000 but when I put the card in my 4000D it was very tight and I'm sure I'll have fun trying to get it out!
btw. the 4000 is a CR m/b, 3.1 Roms, GVP T-Rev with 32mb - 12mb on the m/b - one of the sims went down recently, and boots of a CF connected to the on-board ide with a cd rom on a buddha.

Well as expected the x-surt drew blood when removed!

Placed it in another slot and same problem. Keeps crashing at the same point.

So, removed the Buddha card and tried again.

Result!!!!

X-surf now fully operational!!! PERFECT!!!

Removed the buddha software and installed CDFS with cd on the X-Surf card.

Installed Easynet and been browsing the net on my Amiga... Bit slow but it works. All I wanted it for really was to access my ftp server which it does very well.

I would have thought the X-surf would work with the Buddha but maybe not. I'll put the Buddha in my other A4000.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. One problem solved, plenty more to come I'm sure! (Fitting a Mediator later this week so I'm sure I'll be back!!)

I'm off now to bandage my bloody fingers!!
