Godmorning,

FYI: The following autogenerated files are still in your repo after your clean up yesterday

#
# modified: Makefile.in
# modified: src/sysconfig.h.in
#

Also git complains about the following files that seems to be missing newlines at the end of the file:

#
# src/md-fpp.h
# src/target.h
# src/tools/blitops.c
# src/tools/build68k.c
# src/tools/genblitter.c
# src/tools/gencomp.c
# src/tools/gencpu.c
# src/tools/genlinetoscr.c
# src/tools/missing.c
# src/tools/readcpu.c
# src/tools/writelog.c
#

Kind regards Uffe :-)

Hi to all. I just registered to post a note on this thread, but I am always happy to find an Amiga community.

First of all I'd like to thank my Turk neighbor Gnostic for his effort, as well as all participators, and wish them the best

I am an Ubuntu user and not very much experienced in compiling packages. I found the lack of updated documentation a problem. The required package libgtk1.2-dev mentioned in the documentation is not available in the repositiories. I had to download it manually, as well as libglib1.2ldbl (required by libgtk1.2-dev). I could not find xorg-core, required according to the puae documentation (docs/compiling.txt)

Then, I had a really hard time trying to understand or find out how I should start compiling. There was no ./configure script. I found out that I should run aclocal and/or autoconfig. Both returned some errors, whatever they are

I don't know if I managed to solve that problem, but eventually Google found for me a mailing list saying that all I should do was running ./bronx_.sh (perhaps this should be mentioned in /doc/compile.txt?). The compiling was completed (although with many warnings) and eventually I sudoed a make install

Then, my next problem was to find out how to run puae but the answer was simple since it replaces uae. But then I had other problems/questions.

First of all, the GUI is no much different than uae, other than some extra options, and the change in the name and version number (PUAE 2.3.0 instead of UAE 0.8.2); I expected a WinUAE-like gui, and this made me wonder if everything went well. I read in this forum that the GUI appears when I press F12-Enter, but it doesn't work. Also, there is no tab allowing me to change graphics of display options.

The major problem is this: when I run uae, not only the gui begins, but also the emulator. The "Stop" button doesn't work. When I close the emulator, the gui closes also. In short, I cannot have the gui without the emulator, and as a result I cannot change configuration or mount a hard disk.

I'd like to know if these are bugs or if my compiling didn't go as expected. Whatever the case, I hope I helped to contribute to the betterment of the documentation for the inexperienced user, or the project itself.

Problems with GUI it's a tradition in UAE based projects
All projects inherits stupid idea - "Emulator must be launched in main thread".
But! In X (Linux) MacOS (and other?) windows message pump work only in main thread too. And we have a situation when GUI work only "between" emulator circles...
In my Qt port i broke this tradition (emulator work in separated thread) and have a fast emulator and normal GUI.

Thanks for the replies but I didn't get something:
Did my compiling fail? Can I circumvent those "problems"?

If puae "runs the emulator in main thread" simply because of "tradition" then how come I am the first person who needs to mount a hard disk, and can't? What do other people do?

"tradition" - it's a sad joke But all other it's true.
In fact xUAE it's not a Virtual Machine, it's an Emulator. Main usecase: uae+config+disk(image with you favorite game) run uae with config and playing.
