Help me set up an .avi filetype in Dopus 4
I want to launch Action when double clicking on an .avi file in a Dopus4 lister.
I have use the arexx script Start_Action.rexx, but it insists on bringing up an ASL requester and doesn't play the .avi automatically. 0S 3.9 BB4 |

I bet that Action takes movie name and other options from command line. Just make a filetype with AmigaDOS function "run >NIL: path:to/your/Action {f}" and possibly insert some options if you want to use any... (I assume that DOpus4 had same {f} for filename just like Magellan.. haven't used DOpus4 since 1997).

@jPV. Yes that worked, many thanks! I did have to put in some options to get it to open on the same screen in a window on my cybergraphx workbench screen (it doesn't read the icon tooltypes when started from DOpus)
BTW what does the "run >NIL" actually do? |

NIL: is a device, kind of /dev/null known from linux machines - a virtual trashcan.
output (text messages only) from run, in your example, is redirected to this, and not to the standard CON: so the output is hidden and does not get displayed in a standard shell/cli window. you have to write "run > NIL:" , using "run > NIL" would write the text-messsage into a file called "NIL" |

"Run" also runs it as a separate process to be sure that DOpus won't get locked while that other program is running. Same could be achieved if DOpus4 has "Run asynchronously" flag like DOpus5 does, but I didn't remember it for sure. Anyway using "Run" command can't do any harm.
