Venus the Flytrap easter egg
I was reading the UKs leading games magazine "Edge" this month and they did a feature on easter eggs in games. One game they mentioned was Venus the Flytrap on the Amiga. Apparently it contains a secret game called "Chrome". Has anyone actually found this hidden game. If so how did you find it and what is it like? Is it worth looking for? They also mentioned Lotus Turbo Challenge 2 on the Amiga. If you type the word "DUX" in as the password then it enables access to a hidden recreation of the arcade machine "Carnival". I've not tried it yet though so I can't say if it's any good or not. I love easter eggs.

According to this thread, the game Chrome is in Switchblade 2, not Venus the FlyTrap. Although I have tested this in neither. Wasn't this game also included on a coverdisk somewhere? I thought I remembered playing it from somewhere other than either of those games.

LOL
I've just played Lotus II and tried out the cheat. It's definitely not asteroids. I can verify that it is a clone the arcade game Carnival. It's actually quite good fun for a few minutes.

I've gotten the DUX code working before, but I also heard of a code called MONSTER or SEVENTEEN (I think that had to be names), that one never worked for me. Probably because I didn't do it right. Can anyone enlighten me as to what it would do?

Chrome is in switchblade 2, load up switchblade 2, then on the title screen when it says press fire, type chrome and it will load, see the attached screenshot.
as for the monster/seventeen that does load up a subgame in Lotus Espit Turbo Challenge (lotus 1) start a 2 player game, MONSTER should be entered for player 1's name and SEVENTEEN should be entered for player 2's name start the game and a subgame should load. although i haven't tested this one. |

just tried the lotus 1 subgame and it worked, and looks like asteroids! but it's not as you can't rotate the craft so it's more like space invaders

Lotus 1
Belgarath: Which version of Lotus 1 are you using to get to that game? I have 3 dumps of the original and the Genesis/Angels crack of Lotus 1 and I've never been able to get that cheat mode to work! Which version are you using?
If you look at Sweet Cheater (on Aminet or BTTR) all the hidden games mentioned here are in that guide. |

@Codetapper.
That code for Lotus 1's sub-game did work on the original game version,I had on Amiga. For an Australasian slant on things, my version was part of a 4 game compilation called "Chart Attack" that had Lotus,James Pond, Venus the Flytrap & Ghouls'n'Ghosts. The Compilation was released by Gremlin but was distributed in Australia by Mindscape. |

Here a strange easter egg I heard about, dont know if its true. One of the Lotus game, 2 i think. If you disconnect one of the sound channels, cant remember whether left or right, and listen carefully you can hear someone talking??? Read that in one of my old AF mags.

Yes, it is true, "You will not copy this game":
http://www.eeggs.com/items/2533.html http://exotica.fix.no/tunes/unexotic...s/Lotus_2.html The last link show the actual composers comments... You do not have to disable a sound channel - it is just very hard to hear. |
