Hello from Australia!

Hey everyone,

I'm happy to join the Amiga community! As a total Commodore newb, I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions.

I've never even touched a Commodore machine. I own two Atari STs, one is my original machine and another to replace it more recently, when the PSU exploded and took out my favourite retro computer :'(

I've ordered an unmodded 1200. Should be a couple of weeks before it arrives, but I'm excited to have some fun over here on the other side of the 68k fence

So, hello from the southern most bit of Australia!

Sucks! I am originally an Atari ST guy too! I only got an Amiga recently.
And now all my ST's have stopped working.

What made you jump over to the DARK SIDE?

Welcome to the EAB. How big was Atari ST scene in Australia?? Australia amiga scene had ACU Australia Crackers United and also released some phone phreak apps. I also think Australia released some Virus's as well. Australian shareware scene was quite good with ReSource, NicWilson soft and John Potter who did Dir Opus (I think it was him). Good luck with the A1200. Did you buy that on Gum tree??

It's a shame both our machines lost out.

So so very green. I came to hate that colour, and put a control panel on most bootable floppies (I had no HDD) with a blue background, because it annoyed me so much.

That sucks, Mikerochip. Hopefully they can be fixed.

I'm a huge fan of demoscene, and I absolutely loved all the Amiga demos just as much as the Atari scene. I don't have a chance in hell of getting a Falcon, and there is way less support for it. Nevertheless, I have an unreasonable love for that machine.

Even if I grew up around the Ataris, I've always wanted to have both. Now I get to have a whole new world of demos to check out, and not just YouTubes of them. Woo!

I unfortunately missed it by a few years. I'm 32, so I grew up with my brother and uncles with Atari STs and Falcons and bought an ST from my brother after everyone had moved to PCs.

I'm really glad to have not skipped it entirely. Learning to code on a TRS-80 and then the ST is what got me where I am now! I definitely credit the demoscene coders for inspiring me to go hard for performance and pushing the limits.

Nah, got a PAL 1200 from the other side of the world. It may not be working, but that'll be part of the fun.

Oh god yes, that damned green. But somehow, like some sort of Stockholm syndrome I love it now.

Hey, fellow Aussies!

I had to buy my new A1200 from Europe, It's a british one. I don't think I will get a falcon with the current prices. I'm lucky I've got a A1200 but would prefer the AU/NZ Pal one.

Yeah Australias crackers united had a great intro text for their dragon lairs copier.

I hope you get that 1200 working.

vo1d: What's Tasmania like? How's the work there? Last two times I was in Australia it was Perth for work but if I go back I might try someone different, Darwin or Tasmania.

Tasmania is an awesome place. Beautiful scenery and places to see. Work-wise I happen to be extremely lucky, because it's very rare to find good programming work here. I highly recommend checking out Tassie though. Places like Cradle Mountain and the East Coast etc. Absolutely gorgeous.

Hey, IvanEBC!

Also, I just got an alert. My 1200 is on its way! Woo!
