Amiga 600 Accelerators (ACA, Furia, etc)

I got a Apollo A630 I brought at the World of Amiga show back in 98 and have never managed to get this stable in either of my A600s due to constant lockups and freezing so thinking if selling it and getting an alternative card

So what are people's thoughts on the Furia and the ACA620. I can't seem to find any side by side comparisons so was wondering if anyone has used both and which one would be the better of the two? Both seem similar specs wise and in price so just wondering which would be the better to stick my money down on.

Ideally I would go for the Vampire but been waiting on the list for 6 months and still no news, so figured get an alternative for the time being, and then when the vampire comes I'd have an accelerator for the second A600

Also anyone have any ideas on what the Apollo A630 is worth these days as cant seem to find anyone who has sold one recently, appears they are getting quite rare these days.

I have an ACA620, and I've been extremely pleased with it. Snaps onto the 68000 like concrete, mine never came with the standoffs and screws but it doesn't need it. I'd still like them though if amigakit are reading this. Huge speedup over stock configuration, no complaints. Rock solid for me.

The Furia is obviously a much faster card, but that's about all I can tell you about it. I'm curious myself actually because for the money they look a bargain, and seem to perform better than an equivalently clocked 030 card.

Apollo 630...hmmm, whatever you can get for it would be my answer..Like you say it's rare, but not hugely desirable these days. I'd guess at around £200.

I have the ACA630 25MHZ, very good accelerator with plenty of RAM, no problems for me.
You can almost play Doom in HB mode!
I was planning to sell it so I can get the Vampire.

The ACA620 seems to be sold out in the entire world, so I went for a Furia. It's impressive speedwise, but I would have liked the extra bells and whistles of the ACA such as (limited) PCMCIA support with full RAM, NMI jumper, etc.

Does look like the ACA is hard to find so opted for a Furia. 105quid inc postage so not too bad. They seem to hold their value well for if I decide to part with it once I finally get my mitts on a V2

Furia's fast memory overlaps with PCMCIA address space or something and PCMCIA won't work until you remove 4 MB's worth of fast memory by doing special reboot (Amiga-Amiga-Control for 3 secs). After that PCMCIA works fine, you just have less memory.

Personally I've had no problems with this though, just a minor inconvenience - I can wholeheartedly recommend Furia. But if you use PCMCIA a lot it may be a problem.

idrougge said that the ACA620 has limited PCMCIA support, or at least that's what it seems from his message. Not the Furia.

Aca does not have any issues with the pcmcia. The only problem is the pcmcia reduces the largest available free block. Other than that all memory is available while the pcmcia it available too.

5 MBytes of the card memory are always mounted automatically, so the card is PCMCIA-friendly under any condition. The Maxmem option allows to mount another 5.8 MBytes, providing a total amount of 10.8 MBytes of RAM to application software while still maintaining PCMCIA compatibility (IO cards only, PCMCIA memory cards should not be used).
