Hi M8, how fast does it go with OS3.5?

Edit: Or what OS is it, 3.9?

Hi Retrofan. It's 3.9 with 3.5 backdrop and still not too fast. Improvement over fast 020 is minimal. This is because ECS struggles with 800x600 ,16 colours and fancy icons.
Saying that it's perfectly usable and definitely not slow. Just not as snappy as Amiga should be.
Next few years I'm sure technology will allow for tiny Amiga RTG cards then we all have fancy workbench even on A500 ; )

I don't have an speedometer, but PFS3AIO must be twice faster.

I don't think the file system can make the device driver any faster, ask thomas/toni willen for the definitive answer. Of course it can make it more efficient but the raw speed is determined by the scsi.device.

Yes, that won't change (I think). I don't know a way to compare them or if it has ever been done*, although a lot has been written. The best test I've seen comparing FS was when we were trying to use an iso to emulate a CD32 booting from a floppy (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=65163&page=7). The only way it could run -and right- was with PFS3.

*Edit: YES, it has been done; at least with the former, PFS2. Impressive as you can see over SFS even: http://www.angelfire.com/amiga/greed/testresults.html

ECS systems aren't much fun on 16 colors and especially greater resolutions like PAL Hi-Res Laced (640x512) or SuperPlus (800x600).

Imho, you have 3 options:
1. You stick to 16 colors and system is ok but not so responsive
2. You stick to 16 colors but decrease resolution (320x240). Yeah it will sux but it will be fast
3. You stick to 8 or less colors and system is fast and nice.

Bloody hell, I followed PFS3 guide. After done with it HDTools told me to reboot which I done without formatting new partition. WinUAE refuse to boot with this CF now, same on real Amiga. Even 3.1 from floppy refuses to boot with that CF attached. I got to Fat format and do it again. Nothing easy with this bloody flipping old junk....(ignore my rant)

Edit: HDTools always tell you to reboot after such changes. Same thing again. This time I tried with my patched HD Tools on 3.1 install floppy. I made some space and copied PFS to L on floppy. Everything seems ok but Amiga don't wan't to boot when PFS CF is attached. I'm going to try johnim SFS guide before I throw Amiga in the bin

Nah they are equal in means of speed. It's just that SFS support 020+ while PFS can run on pure 68k.

Hmmm. I'm gonna clone my 3.9 into SFS CF to check if there is any real improvement against FFS first.
