Strange A600 behaviour

My friends: io have issues with one A600.

It has 2.05 rom but i also have 3.1 rom and with both the sympthoms are the same:

- one day , machine works perfect. I have a 1 GB hard disk with Classic WB lite installed. Try to play same random games. Everything is ok.
- next day, nothing, machine wont even boot (black screen) or if it boots, i can get as far as the presentation screen of any game that i was able to play before...

Machine has a 2 MB add on expansion on the pcmcia side. If i took it away, same thing happens

If i try to play some games from floppy, same thing: black screen, machine refuses to boot or i can go as far as presentation screen.

I have tested around 50 games, and it keeps happening randomly...one day machine works perfect, other day machine refuses to work

I have switched Power Supply unit with another ones i have in my collection, also i have tried same games on my other machines, even i tried the HDD on my A4000 and works perfect....its a mystery for me!!!

Mobo is brand new, bought from Vesalia some time ago, latest revision (2B i guess), and it seems to be clean, clear, no visible damage...

Any lights on this please??

Kind Regards

Sebastian

My Trapdoor RAM expansion always used to come loose and need reseating if you've got one of those you might try to remove it.

First, remove all expansions and equipment. If you get a fail then, it's the PSU or mobo. Probably not the PSU since you tried different ones.

You can check if the power connector on the mobo looks damaged or heat the solderpads on it.

It's always a good idea to spray all sockets and connectors with "conductivity+cleaning spray" (something like this, http://www.kjell.com/?item=18317&path= ; stay away from sprays made for car engines like CRC 2-26/5-56)

and re-seat the chips/expansions afterwards.

@Galivan

From you experiements I am likely to believe that the motherboard is the likely fault.

I would at this point send it back and request a replacment.

Or just swap the mobo's capacitors, the most probable culprits.

I think his "Some time ago" precludes a replacement.

Most strange of all this is that this happended out of sudden, literally, from one night to another morning
Machine was 100% working, now, sometimes boots, sometimoes nothing, sometimes same games are playable, some times get frozen on Presenteation screen

So you guys think this erratic behaviour could be related with the caps??

@Gavilan

as I mentioned on AmiBay

this could well be a ROM socket fault.

check the sockets for any dry solder cracks / faults... you can do this by takingout the motherboard viewing it from beneath as you gently push the rom down from the otherside.

if you notice a wiggle no matter how small get some flux paste and a 45 watt soldering iron and have at it

remember to clean the area completely after doing it.
