You know we always argure that MS dominates as it has the US market.... but that only a percentage of 280Million people (last census 2000)

now... the chinese population 1,313,973,713 (July 2006 est.) if we take half the percentage of american uses, there are still way more chines computer users,

I can pretty much state they aint gonna use windows... what do they use?

i bet by 2015 we could all be using it.

What if AmigaOS4 were rewritten to be a PC operating system alternative to Windows? Hey I'm all for it. Not like we're going to have real hardware to work with anytime soon.

@ZetrO: I believe the Chinese government has established Linux as their national OS.

Why bother with some crap OS with 3 apps? Mac OSX and Linux are already available.

I would consider buying an AmigaONE to run OS4 if they reappear sometime soon. Ive always enjoyed being on the fringe anyway, and the Amiga was always a fringe machine even way back when it was doing well.

Linux really is awesome, just wish I could be better at using it, then I'd use it all the time.

The Amiga OS was never crap, but getting back to your question Boo Boo. Yeah i would like it on newer hardware because wether we like it or not, living in a classic Amiga past is what held the Amiga back to begin with. Very few Amiga users back in the day would bother to upgrade their systems because they wanted everything to run on their bog standard setups and got upset when something didnt.

OS4 is never going to run the way we want it to on classic hardware and we will still be complaining about something if it does due to those hardware restrictions. But in saying that, it would be nice to see it run on Classic Amiga's just so we "could" actually see it running to some degree and to make it more available to more users.

I havent really looked into the AmigaONE situation though so i cant comment on that really, but if the hardware is still not available like everyone is saying, then that certainly does create a problem.

Well, following this assumption, for me OS4.0 is also "mythical" because it was demonstrated, some people have it but I can not buy it and nothing seems to change this situation. I am very sceptic about announced availability of the hardware for OS 4.0 this spring.

Fred, you're a dream-killer, if the world was full of people like you nothing would ever get done.

Don't you know that every time you say "I don't believe in fairies", a fairy dies?

Shilly, you're a dream killer, if the world would just make you understand that people who are fanatical about bowelmovement are special too!
People who need an OS that was awesome back in the day, but can't understand it is 2007 and need to keep 1987 going strong, cuz hey, 1988's just around the corner, corner, corner....

Hey guys, instead of spitting venom at an OS you've apparently never tried, why not try it out on someone's machine, so you know what you're detracting?

Oh, and in case you didn't notice:

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...iga+os+4+final

For myself, well I'm a fan of the original hardware. It would be nice to make original hardware the best that it can be, but not go beyond that. It's simply wouldn't be an Amiga to me if you replace the hardware and the software.

And the fact that a few coders have done an entire OS for a niche market just shows how hardcore they are and their exceptionally high level of discipline finally getting it finished.

To me, they're a step above some coders doing a Linux clone. Especially since there are a bunch of Linux clones that are utter tripe and will eventually die, while AmigaOS4 keeps its small but loyal fanbase.

About time this thread got closed since its title is moot.

In 90's the Amiga was on the fringe of high quality affordable ultimate multimedia computing.

Today it's on the fringe of total uselessness.
