for the amiga you need a different firmware - standard gotek are made for PC systems.
if you get a cheap one you need to flash it with the cortex or the HxC firmware. both need a serial to usb device to flash the firmware. amigakit sells them already flashed with cortex firmware. GotekADFEdit - usefull tool to manage to content of the usb stick. Last edited by emufan; 11 April 2017 at 00:05. |

I would be interested in buying Gotek too.
Looking on amigastore I found also "SD Floppy emulators". Are they equivalent of Gotek drives (except for the use of an sd card)? Which are their advantages in comparison to Gotek? Thank you. |

The SD floppy emulators are hardware done by the HXC developer, thus production quantity is lower and price is higher. Functionality-wise it is almost the same as running HXC on Gotek hardware, although the HXC hardware supports some more formats as I recall (Gotek has a slower microcontroller so cannot handle as much).
I would suggest to get a Gotek with the HXC software (the software alone is just €10 per device). Cortex has many issues, is old, and is not updated like HXC is. |

With a type A - type A USB cable, you don't need any serial - USB converter to flash a gotek with cortex firmware

I recently flashed a gotek and now have it with an cortex (selector.adf) with hxc firmware hybrid. Newer hxc firmwares didn't play nice until now. |

Amigakit's inclusion of the Cortex firmware for sale is what made its developer stop working on it. I would not buy it from them.
Get random gotek from China then buy the HxC firmware and flash it yourself. |

The cheaper floppy emulators on ebay often do not mention the name 'Gotek' so just search for floppy emulator. Having the name 'Gotek' or even worse 'Amiga' in the name bumps the price quite a bit for exactly the same hardware.
The main thing to look for is to make sure to buy one which has the LCD on the front as it is very nice to have. |

Other stores and ebay were selling it for around a year before we did. The truth is, he stopped because of the first ebay seller (if I recall). If you use internet time machine, you can see the post for yourself. Last edited by FOL; 11 April 2017 at 18:52. |

I did, but apparently there are different versions and not all are working great. It can be troublesome to troubleshoot. |

And then you thought it was a good idea to go ahead doing the same on an even greater scale?
