Is it possible to have Youtube clips embedded in a post on EAB like it is on Amibay?

Well, no it's not... but it can make a thread much more interesting I think to have some clips displayed. My Amiga Video thread for example would look much better and make the thread much more attractive to readers.

Having had my own forum a couple of years ago, I allowed YouTube videos to be embedded n posts as it kept members "on site". I'm the world's worst for following a link and then clicking another and eventually deviating from what I was looking at in the first place lol.

It's also good that it shows you the poster frame. Some times you wouldn't even bother to click if you had seen the poster frame before. So +1 for embedding.

Seeing the video in context of the original thread feels much better to me. I voted yes.

It's a yes from me, just set a minimum post count before you can use it to avoid spammers.

That's nonsense. It will unnecessarily increase the loading time of threads, making slower systems unresponsive. If the browser supports embedded videos at all (my Firefox only supports HTML5, running under NetBSD) ...
Clicking a link is the optimal solution, as you are only spammed with video content when you're really interested in it. And you don't need to see it again and again when you reopen the thread. |

Why not a user preference you set in your profile. Just leave it off as the default how it is now.

Personally I don't like the idea either and voted no. If I want to see a video I would rather click on a link than have it forced on me. I agree with what Phx says. After all it is, at the end of the day, a message board and not a video site.

Yeah, disable all pictures, logos, avatars and ascii signatures too! This is a message site not an image sharing site!!
I demand a return to bbs format now! There'll be no road here! |

I think it would be really useful. It's no more intruding or annoying than someone adding images to their posts, in my opinion, but if someone feels that way then a setting to either expand or collapse the player by default would fix that.

Maybe there will be more threads "How to turn off youtube on forum?" than "How do I get access to the zone?".
