AROS: "New name, new site"
http://aros.sourceforge.net/news/
From the site: "From now on, AROS simply means "AROS Research Operating System[.......]recent events that involved Amiga Inc suggested us it was a good time for a name change." Maybe it's time the "English Amiga Board" was renamed "English Popular Motorola 68k Based Computer Board". Doesn't have the same ring to it but always good to play it safe. |

Isn't Amiga a Spanish word anyones? Female Friend or something?
Don't recall them ever teaching that on Seseame Street though, but that was years ago. =) |

It is, yeah. Must be a bit awkward in Spain - "Sorry I'm not going out tonight, I'm busy playing on my girlfriend" can't go down too well (so to speak).

or asking your parents for a " Girlfriend " to "play with" for christmas... or asking your m8 if you could play with his "Girlfriend" or telling your girlfriend that you are going round your m8s to play with his girlfriend, could you imagine the argument!!! "why are you so upset honey,... he doesn`t mind me playing with his girlfriend, most of the time we even take in turns to play with her but sometimes we play with her at the same time.".... oh... ohhh the connotations... are hillarious!!!! |

Amiga INC is a huge slab of crap. Gary Peake (rest his sole) and I used to go around and around on Usenet. I claimed that his company was not going to produce anything worthwhile. Five years later, I am still alive and feeling very vindicated. I wonder if Dante shook Gary's hand and said, "you were the inspiration for this circle. I'm pleased to meet you". Sneaky businesses will never prosper. If you are waiting for some crappy five hundred dollar PPC, I have an old Power Mac that I'm more than willing to part with (at that price). PM me for an "uberbargain". Hell, for 500$ I'll draw a damned boingball on it by hand. Well, here is my tribute to Gary, the Usenet warrior. "Never doubt that a group of highly motivated and dedicated individuals can change the world. In fact, this is the only thing that ever has." -Gary's old tagline Rest in piece, Gary. |

AROS: ? Research Operating System
GROSs: GIRLFRIEND Research Operating System . . Bros: BOING Research Operating System - Too 80's? TrOS: TICK Research Operating System - Too Atari? пROS: подруга Research Operating System - Too Russian? NROS: NOVIA Research Operating System - Too much commitment? . . AROS: AMIE Research Operating System - Too French? ( Well this one fits the acronym at least ) P.S. http://www.acronymfinder.com/ Try typing AROS into this... Hmmm, they had better watch-out A(hole).inc may sue for infringement. Too much time on my hands... |

indeeed.... it would seem the english expresion of "going Nova" really does take on a whole new meaining! but female friend is just as funny out of context... clearly amusing "DAD: son, what are you doing upstairs... your too quite...." "SON: sorry dad, i was just playing with my female friend..." "DAD: Oik!?" indeed.... the connotations are indeed obviously hillarious! I think AROS should be called OMEGA research operating system OR Advanced Research OS or Amigo ROS or..... and so on... |
