Help needed with Cannon Fodder HD on Minimig

Since Cannon Fodder ADF's can't save game because it seems Minimig isn't compatible with it's custom disk acess routines, I'm trying different HD versions (not WHDload, lots of os-swap here with 2MB RAM).

So I have this great release by Triangle. It DOES work perfectly on UAE with 1.5MB chip, and a plain 68K. It also works on my real 1200. But it can't save or load on the Minimig (black screen, music keeps playing...)

I need someone with some experience in finding out what could be happening, so I have uploaded the release to The Zone. So if you can try it on a Minimig or at least tell me what does this game do when saving or loading...
The file is named: CannonFodder_Plain68k.zip

Thanks!

It doesnt need testing on a MiniMig it wont Load/Save on 68000 but will on 68020 maybe someone can tell you why this particular part of the game only works on 68020 - Hope you get it sorted

No. It DOES save on plain 68K. A 68020 is not needed for this version to save:

OK I remember telling you it wont Save on 68000 but after seeing your picture I can see it fails to Load/Save if Cycle-Exact is ticked - Version off WinUae im using at moment always starts cycle-exact - anyone know why? WinUae has always got cycle-exact ticked.

Maybe this holds some clue to what the problem is.

Ok, I can now replicate the problem in UAE: Cycle-exact chipset emulation makes it impossible to save or load. It exhibits the SAME behaviour as on Minimig.
So I believe Minimig's chipset is more or less cycle-exact by now, and that's why the game can't save.
Thanks for your idea, Boo Boo!

Would it be possible to fix this small problem? How?

Yay we got there in the end, I thought I was going Crazzy - Again hope someone knowlegable helps you out

I dont want to test now because its Xmas but ill test some time on my Real A600 but because Cycle-Exact causes Load/Save to fail -Does this impley it will fail on Real 68000 hardware.

edit:Minimig YQ091224 firmware -- massive rewrite of Blitter (very cycle exact - improves compatibility a lot
Dont know if different firmware makes any difference

Maybe, but going back to a VERY old firmware just because it had worst chipset simulation makes no sense at all.

I'm resurrecting this somewhat old thread as I've been unable to save my game in Cannon Fodder on the Minimig.
Is there someoune out there who uses, let's say, an Amiga600-HD who has an HD working version that's able to save on a plain 68K?
Or... Is there any way to avoid the flickering/music stalls with the WHDLOAD CF in a machine with only 1.5MB?

thanks once more

The ADFs? No, Cannon Fodder uses custom disk access code to load/save wich doesn't work on the Minimig. That's why I'm trying different HD versions.

I'm talking of a bug in the core

Well, it's not a bug in the core really: It's just that Minimig can't handle the special, oversized ADF of a Cannon Fodder savedisk.

The special "oversize" is not that special since it's written on a standard drive.

it's an MFM format, with a size of $16c0 per track.

Every ADF I tried in the Minimig as a Cannon Fodder savedisk didn't work. Most of them were oversized adfs... why they are bigger, I don't know. But they are
Do you have a Minimig there?

I'm bringing this up again as Cannon Fodder is the only game that doesn't play well on my Minimig (among all the Amiga games I've tried so far, and they've been a lot!).

@dlfrsilver: do you have a savedisk adf wich works on the Minimig?

@StingRay: did you take a look at the HD version in case it can be easily fixed for plain 68K amigas?

thanks

I've found the version you uploaded to THE ZONE, dlfrsilver. Thanks!
However, it has a 2.2MB adf wich isn't handled by the Minimig.
Isn't there any other alternative, like changing where the disk version stores the saved games?

Why not use WinUAE to create a save adf 880kb.

I tried that on the past but the resulting image didn't work on the Minimig. Does it work for you?
