WinUAE and virus detection/protection
Hi Toni,
a question and a request about how WinUAE handles Amiga viruses please. If I do a F12, then reset - does that destructively clear out all memory (ie: so that viruses are killed) or is it like an actual 'soft' reset and viruses will remain in memory and then infect any disk images I use? On to my request - would it be possible to merge the windows Amiga virus bootblock project (which another EAB member is working on, I'll go do a search and see who it is) so that WinUAE automatically warns the user if the ADF they just inserted is infected with a virus, or their virtual machine has a virus and should it be cleaned/removed (ie: destructively clear the system, basically a power off and on)? This might be very good for all the newbies as well as long time Amiga users. Thank you. |

When pressing the reset button, it's like soft reset... must be.. seems so to me anyway to.

I thought I changed GUI Reset-button to do hardreset many releases ago.. Apparently not.. But you can use normal Amiga reset key combination + ALT to force hard reset.
About built-in virusscan: good idea but not possible until someone releases Amiga virus definition data. (and I mean complete data, not some messy 68k-code or data only about some most common viruses) |

Virus definition data?
You get a whole database of this stuff if you want e. g. http://www.vht-dk.dk/vhtdk/amiga/desc/all.htm |

WindowsKiller comes to mind, with his "ADFScan" app. But I have my doubts in believing it was written in C ... (Delphi!?)

Hi Toni,
please try talking with WindowsKiller - he has an ADF virus scanner for windows, so he probably has a lot of info and virus definition data which he might share. Though he appears to have abandoned the project. http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...=virus+windows also there is an anti-virus library which may be of some use on Aminet: http://www.aminet.net/package.php?pa...xvslibrary.lha these guys apparently have the souce code to VirusChecker II, they might share it: http://www.vht-dk.dk/vhtdk/amiga/vc/vc.htm Last edited by gizmomelb; 07 September 2006 at 04:54. |
