Surprinsingly bad results with disk2fdi (What to do now?)
This is strange. I am doing a back up of my disks with disk2fdi. Having tried about 20 disks, I have only one working game (Wing Commander ) . The disks were safely stored and should be in a good shape.
Is it possible that the registered version performs better? Should I rather use some other tool (like adfread)? |

If they are original disks with copy protection (which is the vast majority) then you will not be able to use any tool on the PC to back them up.
You can check if they have already been dumped on http://www.softpres.org and if not get the Amiga tools to dump the disks on the Amiga and then send them in to be converted to an IPF image. If they are not original games, just DOS/NDOS disks then disk2fdi with two drives is/was quite good when I did my old src code disks a few years ago. Personally I don't think there is a valid reason to dump the vast majority of non-original disks these days as so many have already been done. Only personal disks are worth dumping. |

Registered disk2fdi works with copy protected disks. (parallel port hack version, not the 2 drive version)

Ah, thanks for the explanations. Is it also poissible to dump protected disks on an A500 via Cloanto's AmigaExplorer, or is DISK2FDI with parallel cable the only possible solution? (€30,- is not exactly cheap for a bit of software that is needed just once.)
The softpres approach is not an option for me since it needs at least a 68020 CPU. I have a big pile of original (seemingly protected) games, and it would be a shame if they just faded away. Maybe I'll buy DISK2FDI, if inevitable. I'm not sure. |

I am a registered user of Disk2FDI, and I consider that it's well worth the €30 registration fee. You may think that this is a utility you will only use once, but once you have it, you may find that it proves useful again and again. There is so much it can do. Give it some serious consideration. Depending on your location, someone may be able to help you. Alternatively, C2 based dumping is coming. |
