What shmups do you like?

Vertical, horizontal, rail or what ever.

Whats your fav shmups and why?

I personally like Keio's Flying Squadron for the Mega CD. The music is nice, the controls are good and the gameplay, while basic, is solid.

In order of preference:

I) Nemesis II on the MSX , best MSX shmup, and maybe best shmup ever.

II) Raiden, Arcade, best arcade shmup i have played.

III) Soldier Blade, best pcengine shmup, best music in any shmup.

and best shmups on the amiga, as i tried them all, is Battle squadron, then hybris, then SWIV.

NeoGeo, for me it's last resort.

Pc dos, i can't recall any good one.

on amiga, battle squadron is the king!!
but the very best of all must be r-type, still play this regularly on mame and psx and the reason i love it so much is bcoz, it looks allmost impossible, but when u get into the little tricks of it, its quite manageable, also i loved ikaruga, but since my 360 is dead its not an option anymore

Not Amiga games but I used to like Tyrian quite a bit - I think because it's quite easy for a game of this type and I was always quite rubbish at most of them.
One Amiga shmup I enjoyed though is Agony... love the style of the game and the gamplay isn't bad, either.
Oh, and SWIV - though I never finished it without cheating

EDIT - I also enjoyed Jets'n'Guns quite a bit, much thanks to the great soundtrack by Machinae Supremacy.
