If you choose "Stick" as option for the extra select, you can choose the power-up by a brief Decathlon-like joystick waggling and the space key is working as well.
btw: My first option is always a speed up and a fully equipped (three times) spread shot is a good option to keep you away from most trouble. |

Yeah spread shot is ideal to learn the game. Once you know the first two levels well you can go right to the powerful weapon no. 5.
Pretty good order. You get a free shield from the mushroom anyway so drones can come first. |

Thanks m8! I have the advantage that we've played this already here: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=50259 (almost exactly 7 years ago) so I know the game quite well. Back then I also started with 50k like you. Levels 1 and 2 are not easy. But once you've learned them the game opens up and it becomes fun.

Died intentionally to get this score:
226,490 Think with this ruleset about 250k is the maximum without score leeching. Will now play with the 2010 settings (normal, 3 lives, extra life every 20k) and try to beat mosfet's score. |

@john4p: I've been away a few days, what is the 250k score ceiling you mentioned, and who came up with it? Great score by the way.

That's just my personal estimation (maybe I'm wrong). Since we're playing this time with 1 extra life at 8000 and no further extra lives (except for when you manage to fly through the rat's stomach) scores like 400k+ in 2010 are not possible. Back then we played with the rule "every 20000 points you get an extra life" so you could milk a lot more. By milking your lives in stage 5-1, 5-3 or 5-4 you can earn about 10k per life.
Note for newcomers: we discern between milking (can't be done infinitely) and leeching (can be done infinitely). |

Well that is interesting to know. Cause I purposely do not die to get more score as to me the is still leeching. This has never been mentioned before Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you could milk 20k per life with the rule "1 extra life every 20k points" then the milking would turn into leeching because you could theoretically do it forever. Then it'd be forbidden.
But since you can only get 10k per life you'll definitely run out of lives after some time so you can't do it forever and thus it's not considered leeching (with this round's "only one extra life at 8000 points" it's even clearer). Thought so that this rule may have not been brought up recently thus the explanation. |

Guys I think somehow the setup I have meant the games wasn't playing properly. ?????
I have just randomly started playing it via the quick launch in fs-uae instead of via an emulated a4000 and it now seems to be more bullet hell. The version i was playing before, hardly anything shot at me, which was weird. Now everything shoots at you at lot ? Is this correct, it was hard enough before ? but is now really hard both times have been set to normal |

We are now into the final week of the round. Just six EAB players so far compared to 14 (!) Lemon players, though I am sure a few of our regulars will show up during the week.
However, Lemon has had some new blood recently and I feel it should be our turn. So if you're yet to take the plunge... why not start now? If you used to play some years back but drifted away, why not make a comeback? If you know anyone who might fancy some competition play, take a minute to point them in our direction. Let's get some fresh faces and inject some more enthusiasm into Team EAB |

My former highscore is something about 110 k, maybe I can better this score in the next week. I submitted this screenshot in progress because my ending score was something like 948<5 - overally, the program seems not to be overly stable because it also quitted with address errors several times. |
