Frontier: Elite II - do colours of planets, ships etc. flash for you, too?

I didn't know whether this would be a WinUAE related or Frontier related issue - so I put it in support.Games, just move it if it doesn't belong here

So, I just have a question to fellow Frontier players - do you also get some strange flashing or changing of the ship colour or the planet colour, shadows on the rings of planets or even the colour of surfaces when you fly around?

Somehow I can't find a video where this is actually visible (you do notice it much on fast Amigas which run the game quite fluently). Here is one video where you can see the ground changing colour somewhat, it's at about 3:38/3:39 in this video:

I guess it's part of the game and quite normal for most of you, maybe you don't even notice it. It gets quite annoying if you play for a long time on a faster machine or emulation (not really what the game was intended for back in the day, though). Any settings in WinUAE or Frontier that could prevent this?

Funny flickering is a feature that Frontier has always exhibited in my experience, whether playing it on a 1MB A500 or a Cyberstorm 060.

Yep, I concur with Andy, this is a graphical bug that is present in all versions of Frontier, even the PC version, although later 1.05 versions tend to do this less so than the earlier 1.01 version.

I read somewhere that Frontier has some cunning palette recalculating done every frame or something. Occasionaly it goes a bit wonky and all the land on a planet turns the same colour as the sea or you get these flashing effects in atmospheres or on ships.

It's amazing, you have those weird, even freaky questions at times. Then you post them here - and you always get an answer. The EAB is just one big win!

Actually that means I am off playing - what else should I do, it's like that for everyone it seems, neither my WinUAE nor my Amiga is broken, and I started to miss that game. Thanks

By the way, in my opinion the Amiga versions are the best - they have those wind noises when you are in specific atmospheres the other versions lack, mod music and well, they run quite fast on enhanced Amigas

You should take a look at this thread too http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=57582

I left some useful links to Elite related goodies within it
