Lightbulb Most beloved own computer ever

Imagine that, for some weird reason, you are obligated to give away ALL the computers that you have (I suppose most of us in here own more than one kind of machine) and keep only ONE with its stuff! A nightmare? Yes, but in that case, which one would you prefer to keep?

I vote for my very first ZX Spectrum+, which I purchased back in 1985, after saving pocket money (I was 12 then) for months, along with my brother! I still have this one, retired in its well-preserved original box with all original cables etc. The reasons are purely emotional! I will never forget the moment I first opened the box, nor playing some of the brilliant (talking about gameplay) ZX games, like Lords of Midnight, Spiderman Questprobe, Heavy on the Magick, Bomb Jack or even the BASIC-written Stockmarket, Gangsters, Dictator. And of course, I won't forget the NASTY 'R: Tape Loading Error' messages, after spending lotsa time trying to load some 48kb from tape! (Guess what, most of my tapes were *not-so-very-original* back then)

Of course I LOVE Amiga and I still use it since 1988, but the feeling of this ugly black Speccy+ of mine is irreplaceable to me! From time to time, I remove everything Amiga and C= related from my desk, leaving only my 1084 and make nostalgic trips to the past with my Speccy and trusty Sanyo DR201 data recorder!

Reading Keropi's thread about his first IBM PS computer, I decided to write this
I would like to share with you such special computing memories from the past, I'm sure that each one has something like this, back from his (computing) childhood!
Sorry if I forget to mention some specific category of computers, I just wrote down the ones that are familiar to me!

Mine would have to be my C64. Not for any sentimental reasons, I just have the most kit for it & 100+ games.

I would have to go with my Comomdore SX64. Of all machines, I've got something special with the 64 range, being a C128 my first computer, being that the C64 has such a great sound chip, and having in mind it's got one of the most prolific scenes around, something the Amiga simply doesn't have. You get whackloads of demos and games n shit developed for it, in most cases free in teh case of the games/apps, and in most cases all stuff is of great quality.

Besides, an SX-64 is completely 1337 ;D

I'd have to vote for my A500, because the other two computers that I owned - Colour Computer 2 and 3 - really sucked. They have some emotional appeal, but if I had to keep just one of the three, it's not much of a choice.

A close second would be a computer I really loved, but never owned because it was too expensive at the time - Atari 800XL. That was one beautiful computer.

Brief history:
The first computer I saw was a PET in school, then I went looking to get my own computer. At a department store, I saw a TI99 and Vic20, but they were too expensive. Later I saw a C64, but it was $499 on sale and disk drive was $399 extra. I kept going to Radio Shack and learned BASIC by writing programs in the store (surprisingly they never kicked me out). I eventually bought a Colour Computer 2 (for $239) and had to write my own games and save them on cassette tape (I wrote about 15-20). Only when I saw a friend's Atari 800 XL did I realise just how crappy the CoCo 2 was. Of course he paid almost $1000 for the 800XL with disk drive. I never did figure out how a 13 year old managed to get $1000... (lucky bastard)

My first computer was an Atari 800 XL - with tape deck ofcourse, still in my mind the best 8-it computer but sadly undersupported in regard to software.

Pray, what the hell does "1337 " mean?

Umm... sorry, but if you're really asking which one computer I would keep, it'd be the one which is most useful to me and not the one which I have the strongest nostalgic bond to. Life sucks, but that's the way it is

Sinclair ZX Spectrum without a doubt. Amiga is a great machine and far superior to the Spectrum of course, but nothing comes close to the colour clash, the crappy beeper sound, the rubber keys, the smell of burning silicon when the contended RAM gives up.... Ah, nothing like it.

LLoyd, seems that we both have the same metaphysic experiences with our little Speccys, hehe! Up to now, the poll has EXACTLY the results I had predicted! Nice of you all writing your opinions Keep on!
