Amiga game compatibility and WHDLoad

Hi there

Just wondering what the "magic" behind WHDLoad actually is, making it play old OCS games on an AGA machine..?

I mean, many OCS games like Int. Karate, Moonstone, Lotus etc. never worked with the A1200, even though you used Kickstart emulators or disabled the chipset and whatnot.. There was always a handful of games only playable on an A500..

But how does WHDLoad actually workaround this, when it was never possible without?

The "magic" is the patch (slave file), which is sometimes really hard work to make a game compatible for all Amiga hardware configurations.

It also uses 'Kick Emu' Emulates Kickstart 1.3 for example to make older games work.

WHDLoad is Awesome and everyone should register

But what is the difference between 'Kick Emu' and the Kickstart 1.3 available on floppy? In some cases, this wasn't even enough..

Are there actually any classic Amiga Games left, only playable on a standard A500, or has the WHDLoad-team patched everything there is?

It seems like in the WHDLoad support site, every classic A500 game is there...?

Not all A500 classics, but surely the most important ones.

Nope.
This is kind of a list of 'missing' WHDLoad slaves : http://hol.abime.net/hol_search.php?...re=11&B_whd=no

Not entirely correct, some slaves use the Kickstart emulation (mostly games which use a lot of OS functions) as otherwise it would be very hard to create slaves for that kind of games. It is not required however to make older games work.

The games are patched, this is all done within the slave.

To be completely anatomic, the slave file is the bootup sequence file of the game, or?
