But as I indicated, a fix for OS X may be really simple. Perhaps you can compile / try it out if a give a couple of pointers / code to insert? It will require that you give your user access to the raw device, and it would be a good idea to have a backup of the HD

Just to jump in here, As a side note here, u can do "raw" disk access in a virtual machine in vmware fusion by passing/creating a "temp" file on the host.. I've done exactly that with spinrite and a flash drive.. being given full access on to it usb the vm without a virtual image. And it works 100% reading/writing the full drive as it sees it

So should, in theory, be possible here as well in FS-UAE.... Different code i know, but it illustrates its possible by other methods.

So perhaps reading/wring to and from temp file is the answer,,, it would also eliminate the need for root level The only thing might an issue with low level stuff, but since the geometry translation in the temp file can be deleted/re-done for each physical drive connected, it should be ok yes as its just the translation of a physical disk.

Same procedure as in macOS, you can use /dev/something directly as a disk instead of HDF in FS-UAE. Some more information here: https://fs-uae.net/using-hard-drives.
