Anyone bought a new A1200 from amigadeals.co.uk??

hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting myself an A1200 (and later souping it up) as when I was a young Amiga addict I could only dream of owning one (had A500).

Anyway, I cam across the following site:
http://www.amiga-deals.com/adsys.htm

They claim to have new A1200 in stock? is this just bullsh*t or what? I find it hard to believe that after 15yrs there would still be new systems knocking about?!? do they just mean they're as good as new? or was there a big stash of A1200's that never got sold and these guys sourced them?!? (i would hope they're new for the price).

Thanks.

Anyone??

some places still have brand new, boxed A1200s in stock. I am not sure about this particular shop's reliability, but you can also find some of those at www.softhut.com, and www.vesalia.de . Also try www.eyetech.co.uk

Hi Akira,

thanks for the great links, that vesalia site has awesome Amiga bundles for sale and they're cheaper!!

How come there are so many brand new A1200's floating about?? are they still being manufactured for some reason??

Cheers.

ah right i would've thought they'd have sold out easily in the last 12yrs or so, either they weren't as popular as i thought or they made way too many.

Amiga =

Amiga Deals are great - I used to buy a few bits off them when they used to advertise in Amiga Format.

Actually most of these are "refurbished" good as new (and sold as new), but they are not, usually from service repairs, replacements. The real production lines dried out almost a decado ago.

Hey guys,

I have been quoted 130Euros from vesalia, will I have to pay import tax on top of that do you think?

Also about using paypal to pay, do i need to verify my card first? or can i just enter my card details into the profile page?

I tried looking at the FAQ but nothing is clear.

thanks.

Paypal will need to have your card verified somehow first, you can't pay as soon as you register. The method used with me was that of charging 1 dollar to my card and when i got the monthly log I checked for a code stuck in the 1 dollar billing. I then entered that into my paypal account and verified my card.

You might have to pay import taxes, I'm not sure, because it's all within the european union, dunno how that works now. But if you brought it from outside europe you surely might have to pay, i heard the UK are a pain in the arse with customs (much like argentina)

ok thanks akira, well it says all countries within european union have to pay German VAT (whereas those outside EU get it deducted from total), so i hoped i might be spared having to pay import tax too.

seems a lot of hassle this paypal business.

Maybe if you pay their VAT you dont have to pay import duties, since the european comunity is now a whole, at least economically. I'm not sure, can anybody shed some light on this? I'm interested.

paypal, once set, it's cool. The first time is a pain in the arse, yes.

There are no customs within the EU - freedom of movement of goods, -, however you must pay the VAT in effect in the country where you are ordering from, not the one effect in your country.
Make sure your invoice clearly says it is originating from the EU.
If ordering from outside the EU, better ask your local office, can't recall the custom free import limit. If reaching that limit you are bound to pay both custom and vat of your local country, regardless how much you paid in the originating country and the value used for that is the gross value of your goods. If the value statement is suspect your local authority may override it... You may want to ask the seller to state "gift" on the package in this case, most overseas shops are more than happy to do that

In other words: you only pay the VAT in effect in the good's originating country, nothing else whatsoever.

Thanks IFW/Akira.

Think I might go for it then, it's only about £90 for a basic A1200 Magic Pack (versus £150 from amigadeals).

Will have to see how I get on with PayPal.

Well Amigadels didn't get back to me with any pictures (was a bit weary cos they aren't a big online shop), they said they'd try and sort some but haven't heard since.

So it looks like i'll have to order from Vesalia, who are cheaper anyway so no big deal i guess... meanwhile, PayPal are supposed to be making 2 small deposits in my account, nothing showing yet tho.

Vesalia is the way to go. But dont expect a new machine. It is almost new. The machines they have are white though. Mine was opened. The top of the housing has an other production date as the bottom. And sadly two clips on the back were broken. It is however still a nice looking machine they send me and their service is excellent.

Short: I got the wrong keyboard language. I mailed them. I got no reply. But I did get replacement keys from them.

I'd recommend them anytime. (Saving up for an 1260 right now)

do you mean they sent you a keyboard without replying to you? or u had to buy an english keyboard seperately cos they didn't reply?

I have noticed a lot of you have accelerators, how come? do they offer extra speed in games such as geoff crammonds f1gp? and flight sims? do they work alongside the 68020 or override it?

oh and did your A1200 come in the AMiga Magic box? or just a plain box? i am planning to order the following:

Amiga 1200 Magic with UK keyboard, incl. AmigaOS 3.1, without manuals and Magic Software Package.

is OS3.1 the new Amiga OS or just standard WB3.1? ive not heard of Amiga OS3.1 (just 3.5/3.9)

so many questions lol.

thanks for the info btw.
