Help with Soundtracker 1
I'm trying to record some footage of the original Soundtracker. I have V1.21, which was the earliest I could find, and I'm trying to play a mod without success.
I have put several mod files on the disk, some from later games, some called mod.<filename>, some the other way round. I'm typing the name in the SONGNAME field, then pressing LOAD SONG, then typing L and it goes green, but nothing else happens. It does the same if I enter a random name, so I don't know if it isn't seeing them, or if the format is wrong in the MOD file, or if it's the emulator. I'm using WinUAE, and emulating an A500, KS1.2, booting into WB 1.2, then running ST from there on DF1. Any ST experts here? Ermm, I mean Soundtracker, not Atari ST, obviously |

I think "song" is just music notes, without samples which should be in other file.

I thought all MOD files had the samples embedded in them, but I could be wrong.

There was a Sountracker doc file, but it doesn't explain how loading and saving works, or anything that helps me.
If anyone has a PD disk adf file that will play in version 1, that would do, but I'm having trouble finding anything. I watched a YouTube vid, and it just seemed to load the samples and play. |

Well, I've found a two disk release and it had a sample on it, so I've managed to get it to play. I was just unlucky with the first one I found.

MOD = song+sample data
SNG = just song data You need SNG files meant for Soundtracker, it won't load MODs as far as I know. Maybe it does, but it shouldn't really work well. |

I did notice I had a few SNG files, though I ignored them when I was trying things. I thought they may have been an OctaMED file, or something else. Thanks for the info. At least I know what they are now.

No problem.
You will also need the ST-01 sounds disk for the SNG files to work. |
