500 & 1200 Power
Hi All
I am back from the darkest reaches of my cupboards etc and have come back with a 1200 & two 500s I have also found the 1200 power unit and one 500 power unit. The 1200 works and has loads of extra memory and a HD, nice one The two 500s refuse to power up, would a 1200 power unit power a 500, because both the 500s refuse to power up with either power unit. Can anybody help to get the 500s going ? In respect of is there anything that normaly stops a 500 powering up ? Thanks.... |

Yes, the power supplies work across both.
"being dead" will stop a 500 powering up. Primary culprits are batteries leaking, capacitors failing... |

Don't give up: first sack out the trapdoor memory expansion (it is on the base of the A500, under a large plastic cover).
Then turn the A500 Amigas again. |

As I mentioned on the other thread: don't give up that fast: gently pry out all socketed chips and re-insert them. You'll hear a cracking noise.
Then test the Amigas again, first without the trapdoor RAM. If you see the power led activity but no sign of life for the Amiga (no screen, or a completely black one), that's means the CPU is busted and must be replaced for a working one. More troubleshooting as you test them. |
