SIMM vs. EDO SIMM on BLIZZARD.

My blizzard 1230/IV has this options:

- 16MB SIMM, no branded, double sided (total 16 chips), 60ns, golden contact
- 16MB EDO SIMM, HP branded, single sided (total 8 chips), 60ns, no golden contact

I can mount only one but I can't, at the moment, select one for performances: with maprom enabled SYSInfo reports similar/same data (9585 drhystones and 10,00 Mips).

EDO is better?
Which one is cooler?
Are there differences for power consumption?

Finally, which one would you choose?

since blizzard does not use the EDO extra features, there is no speed concern...
I would use the EDO one because there is a slight possibillity since it is newer technologie than FPM it _might_ use less power because of newer memory chips...

I found FPM (fast paged memory) to function better on Apollo Accelerators than using EDO (Extended Data Out) Memory.

What kind of problems did you have with EDO SIMM?

a couple of 32MB module would not function properly in either my Apollo 030 or 060

the modules were of generic origin, toshiba modules i believe... I also had a problem with a 16mb EDO module with the 060.

since then I have always bought 60ns FPM's to make sure.

my close friend has a blizzy mk4 030@50 and he uses 64MB EDO without any issues... (apollos can only define 32MB per memory bank)

FPM simms tend to work better with most Amiga equipment. Especially DKB3128
