What I do not understand is because Motorola has always had low mhz chips, taking into account that there was a version from 030 to 50 mhz, the 060 could have reached 100 as standard without overclocking intel on the date of manufacture of the 060 already had chips to speeds of 200 mhz or even more.

Intel started from 60 MHz with Pentium at the same time as 060.

Not true, in early 1994 at the launch of 68060 the technology process the die was on could not overclock to 100MHz. Only in 1999 after two shrinks to smaller geometries did the timing of the design allow for overlocking to 100MHz.

Also not true, the fastest Pentium when the 50MHz 68060 was launched in early 1994 was the 66MHz Pentium

You have to remember that pure clock rate is on it's own not an indication on performance. Instructions per MHz is better but really you need benchmarks like specint and specfp or better.

Motorola manufactured any chip more powerful than Intel? Can the 68060 make multimedia type images?

Yes, they did. The 68000 was (way) more powerful than what Intel offered at the time (the 8086). The 68020 was more powerful than the 80286. From then on they were similar in most aspects until Intel pulled away via clock speed in the 040/486 era. The PowerPCs probably were faster than Intel at first (a 233 MHz 604 was quite a beast at that time) but it didn't matter any more because the majority of the CPU market wasn't willing to accept anything but x86 compatibility.

What multimedia video can the 68060 drag? By the way, the 603 is from ibm or motorola, the one you mention that has 233 mhz? regards

I wouldn't say the 80386 was similar in most respects. It required an external cache to get any sort of decent performance. A stock 68030 (or even a 68020) just using its tiny internal caches could still run rings around the cacheless 80386. There were later 80386 clones that were very fast (often branded as 486 to compete with the Intel 80486) and included on-chip caches, but the Intel 80386 was rather crippled by its lack of a fast on-die cache.

There is a MPEG1 video player for 68060+ called RiVA.

It's not solely a product of the 060, more of the encoding mechanisms. AGAConv can happily do FMV on lower motorola CPUs if the throughput rate is high enough. Sorenson, Cinepak, MPEG are all possible on an 060.

I have read in the description of the 68060 with special plates and good cooling they can reach 133 mhz is it true? If not stable at 110 to 133 mhz?

No one has ever managed to get it stable at 133MHz and as described previously it's not just the CPU it's the accelerator design

You keep repeating the same question over and over

Ever heard of Google? Try using it...

@GMods; can someone move this thread to "support.Hardware" please?
