Can't get games on full screen mode
I was wondering how I get games full screen. I have the latest (from today) winuae, and have tried playing Turrican 2. It's almost full screen on my laptop but does have a black border thans about an inch all the way round.
I'm using 800 by 600 and have native full screen mode ticked and line mode as double. Any ideas if it's possible? |

Hi mate,
the reason it's not filling the whole screen is because the Amiga never had a native resolution of 800x600 for games. If you want to make it fill the screen you have to use filters really. This is simple to do but it does stretch the graphics and can make it look distorted. I don't use filters but I'm sure others can give you advice on how to achieve good results. |

is the next mode down available ? 720x576. This pretty much the max res of pal mode including overscan so would be a better fit if available.
then enable the Null Filter and adjust the sliders to make it fit a bit better, bearing in mind that some black border is normal representing the overscan area that you may not notice on a tv(very much tv dependant on how much you see). Also the cores of annoyance when every developer has a completely different centre position due to different overscan settings, so you will find one setup doesnt fit all unless you include some border in the screen. |

Well, I got the best results when doing the following:
Under the Filter options just activate "OpenGL", Scanlines 3:3. Then load the workbench image and adjust the screen sizes with the sliders in that way, that the workbench will fully fill up your screen. Then save this as a preset (I called it "Fullscreen mode"). By using this configuration nearly all games will fit to your screen. Only sometimes for some games you have to adjust it manually a little bit. |

Thanks guys that worked a treat!
Just one other thing is it possible to create desktop shortcuts for games to load instead of going though winuae first? Rather go via it? |

Depending on your video card (not sure about laptops) you might also be about to create custom resolutions. With the Nvidia drivers for my 6600GT I made a resolution of 640 x 512, which works nicely. You can also use a program called PowerStrip to do this I think.

Sure, try it. Save a XYZ.uae and create a shortcut. But deactivate the GUI under Misc before you save the configs. The games runs directly without showing up the WinUAE GUI.

I nearly suggested doing custom resolutions but realised he was on a laptop. Laptop screens I've seen are generally appalling at resolutions other than their default resolution.

...but this is where PowerStrip and an external monitor come in handy (which is what I do) |

Thanks KG, I have been trying to decide whether my next PC should be a desktop or a laptop - and now I have decided. Would rather carry the extra weight with me than lose my nice resolutions

Laptop is the way to go.... not just because I have one... but they rule!
And my monitor for the laptop is the most expensive one they had, super duper sharp pixel quality image, widescreen and can be viewed from sides. |

Well.... the only reason to have a laptop is that they are portable. A stationairy computer is better in every way.

When KG says laptops are "generally appalling at resolutions other than their default resolution" - does this mean even for regular stuff like games? If for example I want to play a certain game at 800x600 (not the default res), it will look awful?
