WINUAE- could use some help

I was wondering if any of you know how to get to a workbench screen using winuae? Particularly one where i can view a hdf. Currently i don't have one(unless it can use my windows hard drive) Currently working with the latest version of WinUAE and i have workbench, 1.3 and 3.0 for it. Been trying to figure out how to do this for awhile now.

Wanted to do this because some games can only be run from a hdf and don't autoboot. Also if you know of another free amiga emulator that this can be done on, i'd be willing to take a look.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can use blank ADF disk but with bootblock.

Paul (RIP) set up some good instructions that are easy to follow

Nice guide, however i don't have the adf i would need to install workbench 2.0 or higher to the hdf image. As for a blank adf with a bootblock....how would i get that? i can create ADF using winuae, but they don't have a bootblock.

I'm sorry but you will need a workbench disk to set up a new HDF.

That's something that we can't help you with as we aren't allowed to give copyrighted material away.

I guess you'll have to keep searching or see if you can buy one from somebody.

Okay i've been following the guide carefully and gotten to chapter 4(link here http://guide.abime.net/wb3.1/chap4.htm ) But there is no C: directory on my HDF. It wasn't previously mentioned in other chapters, and there was no errors during installation. Quote from the guide "Before we continue, it is important to have lha and installer copied to your C: drawer on your boot HD (where workbench is installed, in this case I've called the boot HD System). " How do i do that when there is no C: on it?

In shell/CLI

makedir system:C
assign c: system:c

most commands aren't case sensitive, but makedir and rename are.

okay thanks for the the help. However when i typed in makdir system:C it said that the directory already exists. I've resized and cleaned up every drawer on System(HDF) and C: still isn't showing up

Hi rmcin329,

to copy lha and installer to your C directory you should open CLI and navigate with the 'cd' command to the dir where lha and installer is located. To get to the parent drawer (one level up) use 'cd /'. Use the 'dir' command to verify that you are in the right drawer. Then use 'copy lha system:c' and 'copy installer system:c' to copy the files. That should be it

Though not in the way you or the guide specified i finally, got lha.run installed on my HDF. Things are getting more and more complicated by the minute however and i'd rather not be constantly posting on here, can someone get on messenger(yahoo msn aim or ICQ) and give me a hand, before i go completly insane?

NOT true! On Amiga NO command is case-sensitive!
Amiga is NOT one of those horrible UNIX-like systems!
