PS vita and emu stuff newb alert

Hi Guys,
was thinking of putting a pre order in for a new PS Vita from Gamestation [unless you guys know any better deals?].
Just wondering if anybody knows if these will run any emu software we have available for the psp?
I use a gp2x atm and have never had a psp so know very little about emu stuff anyway - most my miggy gaming is done on my 1200's.
Thankx for the help
Steve

hi Steve, as far as emualtion goes, your in luck, but it depends if Sony don't plug the holes first when it's released over here in europe, there is an exploit under there 1.52 firmware

here's whats out there

"Developer wololo has managed to port Half-Byte Loader (HBL) to US and EU versions of PS Vita systems. According to wololo, this is a port/update as it contains additional tweaks to get additional homebrew apps to work. Since this task is done, the next step for wololo is documentation. And if Sony decides not to patch Teck4′s exploit, after the release of HBL, work on HBL for PS Vita will resume."

What an amazing achievement! Wololo has managed to get 12 more homebrew apps working on the PS Vita via the Half-Byte Loader (HBL)–all by stabilizing the HBL for Teck4′s exploit. Check out the video after the break.

Homebrew apps currently working:

SNES9xTYL
Bookr
CSPSP
T.O.M.E.
EmuMaster
Zombie Crisis
Wagic
Cavestory
Picodrive
Spider solitaire
ScummVM
Daedalus (not DaedalusX64)
FCEU-PSP

youtuby video for you : [ Show youtube player ]

althought not released yet, to my knowledge, you can find more info on this on PS3 hacks sites..

hopes this anwsers your questions

Wow I am sold, will take me a while to get that lot running.
Can't wait.
Steve
Edit - yes an amazing piece of work, if you read this Wololo, thank you for your efforts!

Afaik GAME and Gamestation are the 2 best sites to buy from, understandably as they are the same company.

Both offer the bundle of £260 for the Wi-fi model with a 4GB card and a selected game.

Can't say I'll be buying a VITA anytime soon. It's doing a lot worse in Japan than the 3DS did at launch (VITA sold less than 20,000 units last week), and the 3DS failed epicly, so I'm being wary before i splash out all that. My knackered PSP will keep me running til then.

PS Vita has a 'PSP Emulation' mode, that Sony use to make it play PSP software.

Unfortunately in the PSP Emu mode, it only has the same power as a PSP.

But as stated by Wololo, it uses an exploit in a game to work, which can easily be patched by Sony. Which knowing them, they will do. :P

So really, the exploits that worked on the PSP, should work on the PSV in PSP Emu mode.

Just been reading up on Japan sales figures, looks bad, but then the psp started off poorly also.
The preorder deal does look good, can't see the initial price drop beating it.

Yeah, well if Sony go Nintendo's route of offering a reward for buying a VITA early, then by all means go ahead. I bought a 3DS at launch, and even though it went down £80 after about 6 months, I got 21 free eShop games out of it, which in total, are worth just short of £100. Even though I didn't like them all, it was still very decent of Nintendo. And perhaps Sony will do it to save face, if they do have to drop the price.

80 quid that's a big drop, did Nintendo reward all preorder/initial customers after the fact??
I haven't owned a $ony games machine since PS1 back in the day - can't see them giving stuff away after sales, it appears that it was their own arrogance towards their customer base that got them into hot water. There seem to be a lot preowned PS3s available these days.

And here I was getting excited
I thought emulators would run much faster and whatnot. I'm holding on for this one. I miss my PSP though.,

All 3DS orders before the price drop were given the 21 free games. 11 NES and 10 GBA games.

And yes, Sony treats their customers like dirt usually.

How do you load homebrew software into the PS Vita?
I know it has a proprietary memory format.
Or does it have a MS Stick / SD slot too?

The PSV has no SD card slot, it uses PS Vita cards.

You'll prob have to disable the content management checker that Sony have, or else it'll probably block you from copying it onto the card.

So it 'only' has 2 memory slots, 1 MS slot (as Akira wrote) and 1 PS Vita slot?

No, there is no such thing as an 'MS' anymore.

It has PSV Memory cards, which is the MS replacement. And PSV cards, which is what the games are stored on.

The PSV has the standard slots, and then it has the slot for game cards, a slot for memory cards and an accesory slot, which apparently can be used for things such as USB etc.

Despite the game cards having space free for saves and patches, it's since been revealed that games like Uncharted, won't run unless you buy a PSV Memory Card. So you will need one.

I get that bad consumer feeling I get when I know I am going to buy something even though the manufacturer doesn't deserve me too. Would it really hurt to have enough built in memory to enable us to save games without having to buy extra memory???
I hate myself for being a mug but gadgets and tech just get me that way.
Must say the 3g version is a no way purchase - I can't see how the extra expense and the contract costs are worth it.

3G model is a joke, don't even consider that.

In USA its $15 a month for 250MB of data (A stupid amount for a PSV) or $30 a month for 3GB, unlikely you'll use that much data unless you constantly use 3G, but $30 a month is steep for something like a PSV and I can't see how it costs Sony £50 more to make a 3G model, insane.

And yes, like the MS Pro Duo, the memory cards are annoyingly expensive. They should have gone down the Nintendo route and used SD cards, they're common, cheap and have decent read/write speeds.

Sony's reasoning for using their PSV Memory cards, was 'We want to ensure that the cards provide optimal performance', basically. Which is funny, because the MS Pro Duo was a disgrace when it came to read/write capability.

Omg 40 beertolkens for 16g. Yep I got that feeling again. I can fill an 8 gig SD in no time with retro games an few bits of media. These are going to fill up in no time with modern games from psn!
