hd wont boot with df0 attached (sorted )
As title suggests been messing around tonight trying to get hd to boot from a 4 way buffered ide (booted fine when attached to ide direct)
After a lot of messing about the only way too get it to boot was to detach floppy ribbon cable. Now its the only way to get it to boot (direct and 4 way ide) Any ideas ? Btw this is an unexpanded 1200 with nothing else attached apart from parnet cable cheers Last edited by terexuk; 30 March 2011 at 07:48. |

Please define "does not boot." Does it try to boot from floppy disk saying "not a DOS disk in DF0", does it hang with a black screen, or does it go to the "insert disk" animation?
For the latter it's probably the usual "kick 3.0 is too quick" problem. Press Ctrl-A-A and it should boot. Detaching the floppy drive delays the boot process so that the IDE devices are ready when the kickstart scans them. |

thanks for the reply thomas as always, with the floppy attached it flicks between a black and yellow screen ,whilst trying to access both drives but doesnt boot.
With floppy detached it still flicks between screens but finally boots to w/b |

A yellow screen usually is a crash. Could be caused by a problem with the power supply or by a short circuit.
Make sure that the 4-way adapter does not touch anything else on the mother board or in the case. If in doubt, cover it with plastic or fix it with duct tape. Short cirquits are very dangerous for electronic devices. If the 4-way adapter has a power connector, make sure it is connected directly to the power supply or at least to the floppy power connector through an y-cable. Drawing too much power from the IDE port may damage the motherboard. If you can, use a power supply from an A500, it is slightly stronger than that of an A1200.
