Well i took the plunge and bought a Competition Pro joystick (USB)
and i have to say i'm absolutely delighted with it !
Works great with Winuae & Spectulator !

I bought some USB ones a year ago or so (don't remember what site), and they both broke within a week. I'm not *that* heavy handed, either

Probably a bad snap ring for the metal shaft. Anyway, i can't confirm this issue (have a first edition stick), but read about it.

I don't think so. Other people didn't notice this lag too. It's OK, but pretty annoying if you know how it appears (from time to time).

It's more a cheap USB electronic/firmware problem. Not Windows related.

Edit: Was it the SPEEDLINK SL-6603 Amiga Classix Diamond Edition + Competition Pro USB Joystick here?

Customer reviews are favourable, e.g. "The controls are good and responsive", "The directional movement is very responsive" and "The main two buttons are also very responsive".

But if it was, then that's the same one I bought (and from the same place) and mine does have the lag.

If the lag is gone from the one they're selling now, then it must be the long-awaited 3rd Edition!

You can expect this in every game which needs fast stick movements/button triggers (e.g. action games, platformer, shmups..).

You can also test it in the game controller preferences in Windows, where you can test the axes/all buttons.

Press the buttons/move the stick as fast as you can. The buttons press should give you a permanent red flashing. With the CP USB you notice some fluctuations. Just like in the stick movements with the cross. I've compared this with my Sega Saturn USB pad, no lags.
