TV Sports Basketball 2012/2013 Season

As a great fan of Cinemaware's basketball game (still the best basketball game in the Amiga in my opinion), I decided to update it. Although this update is already a couple of months old, I just post it here in case that someone didn't notice it. So here it is, the full 2012/2013 NBA season for TV Sports Basketball which includes:

* Correct teams

* Correct players

* Updated players' stats to represent reality as close as possible

* Correct heights

* Correct coaches

Unfortunately due to the old release of the game, there is one big flaw, and some minor flaws which don't affect the gameplay though.

The one big flaw is that due to the old release of the game, it includes 28 teams, whereas now NBA consists of a total of 30 teams. So, I forced not to include the two worst teams in NBA these years, and those are Charlotte Bobcats from the Eastern Conference and New Orleans Hornets from the Western Conference. Sorry for the fans of those aforementioned teams.

The minor flaws consists actually of the current jersey numbers of the players. It seems that the numbers in the oldie days weren't all available, so some players, but very few, have incorrect jersey numbers or at least very close numbers to the real thing.

And now for some screenshots (taken from my A1200):

Installing update into a floppy disk

REMEMBER TO MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR ORIGINAL "REEL 2" DISK OF THE GAME. NEVER USE THE ORIGINAL ONE WITH THE UPDATES.

1. You will need to turn your REEL 2 disk into write-enable state in order to copy over the two update files.

2. Download and extract the TVSports_Basketball_2012-2013.lha archive.

3. Copy the files seas and tdat to the REEL 2 disk, overwriting the old ones.

4. Start TV Sports Basketball and enjoy.

Installing update with WhdLoad

1. After installing the game with WhdLoad, you will notice a data directory nested in the TVSportsBasketball folder.

2. Download and extract the TVSports_Basketball_2012-2013.lha archive.

3. Copy the seas and tdat files into the data directory of the game, overwriting the old ones.

4. Start TV Sports Basketball as normal.

If you find it useful and you like my work, please add some feedback here in this thread. If you have any suggestions regarding the update, please say it here.

Enjoy!

That motivates me to play TV Sports Basketball again after many years. Great game.
Thanks a lot.

Yes, a lot of hard work I guess. No problems noticed so far.

We already talked about. It would be nice to have setable (or at least 3 min.) quarter time instead of 4 x 12 min. for a game in league mode. Would be cool if JOTD (isn`t active since some time) or someone else from WHDLoad team will have a look.

The problem with 4 x 3 min is that will ruin the gameplay and the real simulation. I have finished this once in the past, and I assure you that there are hidden surprises as you progress deeply into the play-offs of the season.

I agree, you are one crazy bugger Phantom.......but I'm glad you are! Love TV Sports Basketball and this is one game I really miss having the time to play properly. Your laborious efforts may well "force" me to enjoy a full season for the first time in over a decade!!

A-w-e-s-o-m-e!!! The Greeks have proven their love for basketball once again!

I tried the patch on the WHDLoad version and I confirm that it works like a charm:

Here's a suggestion: How about an update for the current European teams?

Yes, but I don`t have the time to play so long and it is a bit boring because more time doesn`t change the result of a game. Just the duration changes.

Thanks for your kind words. I thought of EuroLeague for example or even our Greek A1 championship (just for fun), but I really don't know. I'm planning for a F1GP update actually, but that's not a promise.

Yea, since I working on SWOS updates I wondered if somebody would do the same for other sports titles for the Amiga.

I'm adding TV Sports Basketball editing to the Multi-game Character Editor 10.2, it should be ready for release in a couple of days. The existing editor is pretty awful, eg. doesn't even have mouse support :-(

TSB is one of my all-time favourites so I can only praise Phantom's work even if some years has gone.

I am going to check it out the MCE tool as well.
