Cloanto's main release for real machines (3.X) was simply a rehash of already available patched modules bundled into a Kickstart. Better than nothing as far as updates go, but it wasn't anything particularly new (and also introduced issues on real hardware).

Cloanto did some updates to PPaint in the past, but handed it over to A-EON in 2014.
A-EONs PPaint site is now defunct :-(

But besides that... Cloanto is not really better as a software developer as Hyperion.

But it may have been the plan all along: accumulate all earnings from Amiga Forever to be finally able to buy all rights - not a bad strategy.

For these reasons, at various Commodore/Amiga events which took place between September 2014 and January 2017, we started to privately and publicly discuss possible futures involving open source, a nonprofit and/or foundation, and other long-term preservation scenarios for the legacy which we worked so passionately to keep alive.
If they really go forward with cloanto.org
I will only believe it, when I see it - but hope dies last

Exciting times I'd say. I think Cloanto owning greater part of Amiga IP/trademark is a better (or maybe less bad) situation than before the acquisition.

Let's hope (dream) that Hyperion and Cloanto return to their "on speaking terms" situation of the past and maybe we'll see a settlement or even a merger happening... And while we're dreaming add AEON and Amigakit in the mix and all of a sudden we have a unified Amiga again...

Hyperion isn't a software developer, they're a bunch of lawyers who have outsourced everything, paying little to nothing in return.

So at least Cloanto isn't a bunch of lawyers

I don't.
It is more like in Highlander: "there can be only one"
Either Hyperion or Cloanto has to die to move forward.

A-EON and AmiKit will probably fall in line with the survivor ...

And to be really unified we would also need to take MorphOS and AROS into account.

Based on what the website says, they want to create a non-profit to hold the rights, which is separate from the commercial business. The .org is the non profit.

because this is a different site from cloanto.com

cloanto.org proposes the establishment of a non profit organization and the possibility to open the source code.

And with such an assertion, what did you do without being paid back?

Not sure, but it is most likely - > What makes you certified to say something like that? What have you done, when youo got nothing to little back? What is you personal experience with Hyperion?

Sarkastic way to say that you are just one of bullshitters.

Sarkastic or just nonsensical way?

What has Mr.Flibble's experience to do with it? nothing
He was just pointing out that Hyperion has a history of not paying developers - sometimes in consistence with the agreement/contract like for 3.1.4, but also sometimes in contrast.

@Gorf:

That's the first time I've ever heard that claim, can you give any specific example?

Thomas Richter (ThoR) and others from the developer team mentioned it here on EAB several times, that they did and will not get any money for their work on 3.1.4

As for the past: It was mentioned by the Friedens at some point, I think. This is probably the reason, why Hyperion does not own ExecSG.

@Gorf

Can you try www.ppaint.com and tell me if the Personal Paint website is working for you now?

Many thanks for your feedback!

It's no secret that the work on OS3.1.4 was done on a voluntary basis, that doesn't mean there was any fraudulent behaviour involved.
