Andy Warhol Amiga disks preserved

Ah, cool, did not see that before. I was looking into the news section because I found it and important find as I always wondered what had happened to the stuff Andy must have tried as preparation for the Amiga launch event.

Either way, maybe someone wants to merge things or delete, whatever.

Well. Easy to bash someone that's absent. What can I say? I assume we'd have known even better, but we weren't there. But they had good reliable tech and in the end... they got what they were looking for.

They gave him an Amiga 1000 back then. He tinkered a bit, also with Deluxe Paint samples he modified. Can't see anything important besides the fact that he used an Amiga in 1986. So, nothing to see.

Hopefully, but most people will probably see the pictures and think "Wow.. The Amiga must have been a real shitty computer if thats the best it was capable of".

Annoying that the images are being distributed as JPEGs, which is totally the wrong format to save these bitmaps as. PNG would be so much better.

That said, perhaps a lot of web software would auto-convert to a JPEG at some poor quality setting?

It's possible to save as JPG without visible compression but there is no point as PNG files are smaller. Warhol mean thug in polish language....

and they used a kryoflux to.... dump "copied" disks, when they could have done it with an A1200..... That's really killing a mosquito with a nuclear bomb as we say here.

The assigned dumper probably didn't have an Amiga on hand at the time. If it were me with the disks I'd use my Kryoflux since I don't have a dump-capable Amiga.

(I say this of course without having read the provided PDFs to date. So if I'm talking bollocks feel free to let me know. )

JPG is always lossy, no matter of the quality setting, you just need to know where to look to see So there IS visible compression, even on a first save

I would have to agree with some of the comments made here I studied Art and Design in College. I wouldn't give Andy Warhol's Art work standing room. As a human being I think he was just a cockroach. Sorry I don't mean to offend but this is my opinion I make no appoligies for it.

They are not distributed. You think they'd distribute a "Warhol" for free?
I am not any kind of Warhol fan or anything like that, but his historical importance in the history of art is undeniable, hate him or not. It's ridiculous to say otherwise because it just goes against facts of history. I can name many visual artists I don't like but whom I cannot deny influenced art in a big way and therefore are important.
Saying this is just a fact and not any favoritism to him.
Comparing the work with something else is just stupid, as its importance does not rely on the works themselves.

And of course any unearthing of his works is beneficial to all as it adds to our cultural vault. Shitty or not, that's people's opinions, but I am glad the disks were salvaged and the work preserved for posterity.

His "analog" works are worth to be preserved. Not this "toying a few minutes" with an Amiga. Anyway, this news is more important for the Warhol museum. Not for the people in general.

Well at least the Amiga has made the mainstream news, even if it is because of the Warhol connections! It is usually some story about an old Apple or an old IBM PC lol.
