Das schwarze Auge / Realms of Arkania Arcade Fan Project

Well, you know about my FMV game "The Third Flask".
-> http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=31971&
We have not the time to continue this complex project at the moment due to uni and other "real life" stuff.
(It´s NOT dead though!)

But I started to create a small arcade game in Backbone.

I´m a big fan of the pen and paper rpg "Das schwarze Auge" aka "Realms of Arkania" or "The Dark Eye".
And Golden Axe is one of my favorite fantasy arcade games.

That´s why I settled the gfx and sprites from Golden Axe III
in the world of DSA!

...and it works.

The game is half-finished yet.
Two levels are missing and I have to improve some gameplay aspects.

I´m not sure if I´m allowed to keep the DSA logo and gfx although it´s just a fan project for a "dead computer".
I stated all this copyright stuff (incl. Sega, Amiga Inc., Attic and so on) before the game starts.

But that´s why I didn´t upload a demo...

Here are some pics: (the EHB mode is used for almost all gfx including game screen and panel)

German only atm...

HAM title piccy (scanned from an adventure book of the DSA p&p rpg)
DSA logo added

Main menu: taken from the DSA computer game (combined gfx plus added DSA logo)

Level 1 - up to 128 colours on screen

Level 2

Level boss

Level 3

...the story continues (texts between levels)

If you like to listen to the Level 1 modfile, I uploaded it here (mp3)
-> http://www.vidworx-mediengestaltung.de/Levelmp3.mp3

I used various samples, but arranged it by myself.
Have fun.

Well guess this is not leagal, but then again dont speak too loud, and put a not about if the owner want it remove they can write you, and you will remove it, then I guess no one would notice

But you should remove the big logo in the bottom of the screen on the levels.

You could maybe use, and convert it, the BOR engine http://borrevolution.vg-network.com/links.html This create some cool games

This Bor engine stuff is nice but I want it to be Amiga (68k) only. He, he

Ohhh, I really like this BIG logo...but you´re right.
Perhaps I´ll change all DSA stuff for the release and keep the DSA version private...

We´ll see.

Wowzerz there, viddi, that be cool!

If it lacks levels, how about releasing the level editor or something, and a little competition here on EAB for a few best-of-the-best levels, that you could add then to the final version?

well maybe not remove it completly, but you could blure it a little, and maybe change it to "Das Grünes Auge" or something like that, then we all know what it is about, but will be easier to release without problems

Thanks!

That´s a great idea, but I already have all tiles I need and it´s not a big thing to put them together.

But if 5 levels aren´t enough we should add some special EAB maps.

It's best to do it as fastes as possible, before the release even, cause the "level of interest" in the project, is highest then.
I mean, we don't have many such occasions to know a project before it's release, so why not fully enjoy it!

Wouldn't want to endup like Vista, that got officially released and *then* betatested, now would we? ...

The main problem might be the palette.
All sprites and tiles are part of one huge EHB IFF file (1280x1024).
Adding new gfx (with different colours) that aren´t already components of this file would change the palette.
So, I would have to cut out all sprites and blocks again.

But we could draw or redraw exisiting tiles from the used palette instead.

Thanks my friend.

I finished Level 4 today.
It´s a one screen only level. (tower guard boss)

I´ll program the story music and level 3 music this evening.

Ah yes, and now you´re able to visit a tavern after finishing level 2.
You can have a drink (mead) or listen to the other guests...

Really nice project, viddi. I'm no fan of this FMV stuff, so i prefer this one. Looks indeed promising.

*update*

Here are the last two stages.

This is a auto scroll level.

...and the final fight against the evil druid.

Three tunes are still missing and I think I´ll arm the hero with flying swords.
That´ll improve the gameplay a lot.

A playtesting version is on the way.
