Coming soon: PCI bridge emulation

Next beta series will include PCI bridge emulation (and another very pointless feature but this PCI bridge-only topic). I think this was last major unemulated expansion type.

Currently supported bridges (with various levels of compatibility but at least basic operations work)

- DKB Wildfire
- G-REX
- Prometheus (44359/1)
- Mediator 1200 TX (2206/60, 2206/188)
- Mediator 4000 MK2 (2206/33, 2206/161)

If you have other Mediator model: Download http://www.winuae.net/files/b/expdump.zip and attach output, thanks.

Currently emulated PCI devices:

- Realtek 8029 NIC (NE2000 clone).
- 53C815 using existing 53C8xx emulation (DKB Wildfire only)

TODO (nothing guaranteed): some popular sound card, some video card(s). Must be already emulated in QEMU or other emulator/virtual machine.

Goal is to include Voodoo 3 from MAME (when license is officially compatible) but it may be too complex and annoying job..

So can we expect to have emulated graphics with more video ram for bigger resolutions under OS4 ?

@stainy, hrmes,

did anybody of you actually read Toni's post or do you only read headlines?

@thomas,

It is my understanding that OS4 only supports the Prometheus and Mediator PCI bridges, and these provide support for Voodoo 3, Voodoo 4, Voodoo Banshee and 3D Labs Permedia 2 cards.
Of these cards Toni mentions Voodoo 3 emulation as a potentially difficult goal, so I think my question in the end is valid.

Single "modern" (or at least modernish) emulated card gets chosen that needs to fill all following criteria:

- must have at least 8M VRAM, preferably more (=full HD resolutions possible)
- must be all current "classic" hardware Amiga OS compatible (OS3, unix-likes, OS4). Does not need to be Amix compatible, it is not current enough
- must be already emulated/virtualized, must be license compatible.

Currently only one that fits is Voodoo 3. Note that speed nor hardware emulated 3D is not required!

---

Prometheus and Mediator + RTL8029 is now confirmed working on OS3 and OS4 (using built-in driver which is nicer than with A2065). OS41FE does not seem to detect G-REX (It says experimental support in OS41FE changelogs).

Does anyone have latest G-REX RTL8029 OS3 SANA2 driver? I have one ("rtl_8029pci 1.3 (20.9.01) © 2000-2001 by Vision Factory Development") but it does something weird, reads MAC from emulated 8029 correctly but when it sends ethernet frames, totally different MAC address is used.. (Or perhaps it is Miami incompatibility?)

btw, it is really difficult to find Prometheus or G-REX drivers, official sites don't exist or work. Prometheus drivers were archived by web.archive, G-REX stuff seems to be completely MIA.

Wow, with this I could finally test NetSurf on VooDoo 3

Here are some G-REX drivers http://web.archive.org/web/200307290...shtml#software .Use mirror2.
and Prometheus http://web.archive.org/web/200606180.../en/index.html

Just awesome! Thank you very much Toni for making WinUAE the _ULTIMATE_ emulator!

After this we need support for the official Commodore bridgeboards as well (A2386SX, A2286AT etc.) and the expansion support will be pretty much complete

Those are quite nicely documented in Commodore Amiga A500/A2000 Technical Reference Manual. It will happen. Someday.

Hi Toni,

Just curious, have you considered CyberVisionPPC and BlizzardVisionPPC emulation?

Either way I'm super pumped about possible Voodoo 3!

Yes. Permedia 2 chip emulation does not exist. No emulator or virtual machine has implemented it. (I don't do PC hardware emulation, I only port existing ones, like Cirrus Logic, PPC etc..)

Everyone: Don't expect any kind of fast 3D emulation, it probably will be software only unless someone else bothers with it or existing one is easily "portable".
